Description

The Elephant changed hands in December 2004, with new owner, Ian Battersby, planning a change of direction. Out went the old purple colour scheme to be replaced by a much cooler and lighter look. The restaurant has a very relaxed and informal feel, in keeping with the café culture embraced by the city in recent years. In fact, the Elephant prides itself on not being like other curry houses – either the traditional flocked wallpaper variety or the new brand of glitzy chain restaurants! The mood is accentuated by the coolest playlists you’ll ever hear in a curry house – what else would you expect when nestled between Mojo and The Reform and within a minute’s walk of other icons of the Leeds independent bar scene like North Bar, Sandinista and Sela? And independent is certainly the Elephant’s style.
As well as a new look, the old menu has been expanded and improved to bring a unique mix of styles from all over the sub-continent and some twists on the traditional. All food is cooked freshly on the premises by a dedicated team, so, whether it’s something you’ve never tried before like a Dip in the Bay of Bengal or an old favourite like Chicken Korma, the quality will always be the highest.
If you’re fed up waiting all night to get into the same old places, try something a bit different. Take a detour – follow the Elephant trail. It’s not that far - we’re only two minutes from the main shopping area.
