Full review submitted with restaurant data An lovely oasis of cultured cuisine in an otherwise neglected area of London between the chattering classes of Tufnell Park and the windswept emptiness of the Archway roundabout.
Food is a wonderful mix of British, French and North African, with a strong emphasis on presentation but with no skimping on portion sizes. I have had excellent minted cous-cous, duck, black pudding and lamb's liver terrine, sublime seared scallops with rocket and endive, and delicious rib-eye steaks cooked to a turn.
Prices are not cheap for the area but are very good for the standard shown. The wine list is extensive and provides some wonderful combinations for a party of 4 or more, or some little treasures to savour with the significant other.
The main dining area lies in the back of a rather inauspiciously fronted Victorian pub, but is a huge barrel-vaulted hall with the walls coated in local contemporary art. You might just pick up a bargain while you mull over your seabass, steak, or squid.
Overall some fine food in a very lively atmosphere. You are likely to see all manner of arty and affluent locals, but if you are more than 15 minutes late for a booking you'll such many more, as they'll shove you into a corner of the very lively public bar at the front! []
