An American Sit-com
We (two persons) came to that restaurant for a quiet light supper and to see whether the location was suitable for a function (family reunion).

The food was flawless (we had salads and red wine, cafe latte), the wine excellent.

However, we felt downright bothered by the waiter that night. I very rarely complain about personnel in restaurants as I believe, everyone has a right to live their personality also when at work.

I draw the line, though, at a waiter who thinks he has to put on a loud, loutish, American sit-com-style show at the expense of his customers. He overwhelmed us with a stream of witty remarks and comments and would not stop to interrupt our conversation, every time he came to our table.

I tried to communicate that this was quite unnecessary but I felt myself verbally “bulldozered” into silence. The culmination was, when I made the mistake not to finish my food entirely. This man (according to himself from Miami, and no mistake) towered above me, talked down to me in a patronising and sneering manner, which I have never seen before in a restaurant.

We have now booked another restaurant in Nottingham for our function, where we are confident that our presence will not be disesteemed like in your place in Angel Row.    [24 Mar 2008 10:04:02]
