Top: United Kingdom: England: Portsmouth: Gunwharf Quays Description
Tempting antipasti, pizza, pasta, seafood and classic Italian wines by the bottle or glass, make this little corner of Italy the perfect destination for a leisurely meal with friends. Reviews review it add a link Show 10 | 20 | 30 | 50 reviews on each page wonderful Food OK, bad service Worse than mediocre. A table for 2 at 8.15 on a Saturday night at Gun wharf is hard to come by without booking. I think that tells you something already! We had a long wait for our starter, which was only one portion of garlic bread with cheese. The bread was hard and not of a texture disposed to absorbing butter. The garlic was conspicuous by its absence and there was not very much cheese, the dish was barely warm - not a success. I ordered the penne with meatballs. When this dish arrived at table it was actually cold. I informed the waitress who seemed unconcerned but eventually she removed the plate. When the dish came back it was luke warm and had obviously been ‘popped in the microwave’. My boyfriend had a steak dish. The steak was over cooked and stringy. The potatoes were very nice as were the French beans. My dish was revolting. The pasta was overcooked; the sauce appeared to be a small quantity of tinned tomatoes. No garlic, no olive oil, no herbs! Italian food – I think not. The meatballs (5) were horrid; tasteless, dry and with some unpleasant gristly bits. I would not return to this restaurant ever. [08 Oct 2007 09:59:53]
