Top: United Kingdom: England: Portsmouth: Gunwharf Quays Description All you can eat Oriental restaurant serving a buffer of at least 60 dishes for dinner or 30 for lunch, chosen daily from a selection of around 150. Its situation on the upper level of Gunwharf Quays, over looking the Spinnaker Tower, makes it an ideal spot to fill up after a hard day's shopping in Gunwharf and nearby Commercial Road. Luckly a Coke was less than £1 and there was plenty of free water (editor's note: Water Margin will now only supply filtered water, for about £1 per jug). Then it was up to the buffet for the first of many trips. The range was outstanding, and everything was topped up regularly. There was even a selection of uncooked meat and seafood which you could take to be cooked as you waited. As it is a buffet and you get your own drinks at the bar there was never any need to wait for a waitress, however they were all very efficient at clearing the used dishes so you could go up for another helping. Overall, a commercialized restaurant with an outstanding range of food at a reasonable price, for the food at least. [27 Apr 2004 20:48:18] Chinese Food With A View Prepare To Roll Home! We almost always have gone on a monday night so it is never too busy which is a small favor as the layout of the restaurant is slightly akin to a school dinner hall (accoustics included) so i would imagine it could get quite noisy when its busy. This being one of my very few gripes the fact that the decor of the place is almost sterile with grey linolium flooring and exposed air conditioning vents. The drinks as somebody has already been mentioned, are quite pricey there. However you can buy a big jug of mineral water for £1 which is favorable as its better drinking water than drinking fizzy drinks and stealing precious eating space. The food selection is vast. There are most dishes present that you would find in your local chinese takeaway as well as some authentic selections. The thing that keeps on bringing me and my girlfriend back, however, is the satay chicken. It is the most moreish food I have ever tasted. The sauce goes with lots of other things as well as the accompaning meat product. Its gotten to the point now that we have actually considered begging the chef for a small vat of it to take home. That said there are so many things on show and if you dont like what there you can always pick some ingredients to make your own stir-fry. The staff are always polite and they are very prompt at removing unused plates and cutlery. Overall I would have to say the highlights of the selection are to numerous to count but I'll go out on a limb and say the aformentioned satay chicken, teryaki(have no idea if thats spelt right) noodles, pork with honey and crispy duck pancakes. If you are looking for a quiet, queint little restaurant to have a romantic evening in this is probably not the place to come to, but if you want good food and a good time (gunwharf offers loads of entertainment afterhours) this is highly reccomended. [20 May 2005 12:19:56] Chinese tastes so good there What a bargain We did not like the way the customers were all packed in as sardines when two thirds of the restaurant was closed off. We clearly asked to be seated on our own and the waiter became very agitated at this request. We did not stay on this occasion. [02 Nov 2006 13:31:06]
