Great food, good service This is my local, and have been eating here and having take aways for years. The menu is extensive and there's something for everyone. Its not a place for beered up lads out for a vindy though. The chefs specials are great, as they are often adding new dishes to the mix, and you get the oppurtunity to try more than the usual vindy/madras/korma/biryani dishes, and try some quite exotic (an almost unpronouncable) dishes [13 May 2003 08:01:08]

Best Indian in Stevenage I'm a Indian-food-a-holic. The Taj is definately the best Restaurant for Indian food. The atmosphere is great. A very popular place. [19 Dec 2004 00:20:56]

Fantastic Food and Service Indian food is one of our favorites and the Taj Mahal had some of the best we've ever had. The menu has the largest choice of dishes from all areas of India we've seen. We walked in around 2:30 and had great service. We were the only diners in the restaurant but didn't think anything of it since it was late for lunch. Since the door was open, we didn't think to check if they were open and no one mentioned they normally close between lunch and dinner. The only disappointment was the nan oven wasn't up to heat but they made up another type of bread out of chick pea flour for us. The prices at restaurants in the UK were quite a shock (about double what they are in the US) and the Taj Mahal wasn't an exception. Plan to spend 30 - 40 pounds for 2 if you want 2 entrées, nan, rice, and drinks. However, the portions are large and prices were less than some of the restaurants we ate in. My husband likes VERY HOT food so had the lamb vindaloo which lived up to its description. I had the lamb Madras which is a little milder but still very spicy. Try one of the Curries if you don't like hot food. With 3 other Indian restaurants on the main street, there's a lot of competition; however we had no interest in trying another one and went back for dinner the next night. Since we eat early, we didn't ask if they take reservations but by 7 all the tables were full. The chocolate square that comes with the check was just right for dessert [09 Aug 2006 21:54:29]

Quality food, attentive service This is has been my favourite local restaurant for some time. The food has proved to be consistently excellent with the service to match. I would recommend the Taj Mahal to groups or couples as there is plenty of choice and you're always greeted by a friendly smile. [08 Nov 2006 10:20:10]
