Nestling in the gently rolling and wooded Sussex countryside, richly interspersed with fine buildings and gardens, one and a half hours from London, this fortified castle has been a private home for nine centuries. To the delight of guests the mighty portcullis is lowered at midnight, as in times past. Within its stone curtain walls there are delightful gardens. Rooms and suites all feature whirlpool baths.
