Rude, No Time For Us.
We had some friends come down from Chesire for the weekend so we took them to York for the day as we go there often.

our first port of call was the Earl Grey tea rooms for a nice cup of coffee and somtething to eat, I had been there before and at that time was very nice.

We entered the little shop before going into the tea area and stood to be seated, we waited a while, the staff kept passing us not acknoleging us then a young student type came up and said you'll have to wait at least ten minutes for a table (in a take it or leave it attitude) we said ok that's fine then another couple came in and he said to them I have a table for two smoking or none smoking they replied we don't mind, he said well make your mind up its your choice (in a charming manner.) at no point did anyone say to us sorry for the wait we were just ignored, oh the waitress said can't you see i am busy with customers errr what are we then?

Any way we walked out i said they were rude to which the your chap said thanky ou for calling so do come again. now myself and the other people have been or are in catering so we are very concious when we go into a eating estabishment to be very patient and we know that they are under presure at this time of the year but hey come on guys at least meet and greet your cutomers with a smile and a pleasent word.    [08 Dec 2004 06:41:17]

Lovely Courtyard.
I went with a friend to the Earl Grey a couple of weeks ago. As it was sunny we decided to sit outside. They have a really nice court yard with new tables and chairs and a nice atmosphere. The waiting staff were friendly and courteous and when I ordered welsh rarebit it was delicious. My frind had the meat version and recommended that also. There was a good choice and I would say the quality and cleanliness were excellent.    [22 Jun 2005 08:58:11]
