All in all, a good experience
Having heard positive comments about this place from friends, my parents and I decided to make a trip to this restaurant in Summer 2000.

The restaurant is just off the busy Coney Street in the heart of York's main shopping area, on the bank of the River Ouse, and has only been open since the beginning of 2000. It's a contemporary restaurant, though not quite as minimalist as other contemporary restaurants in York, such as The Slug and Lettuce. On the outside, the building is clad with wood, and the wooden theme is taken inside. The bar area was built in late 1999, but the restaurant area is partly in the old Yorkshire Herald office (or what's left of it), and the two actually complement each other quite well.

We chose to sit by the large patio windows, overlooking the River Ouse. The view is certainly good, and had it been warmer, I'm sure we'd gone outside onto the balcony. Anyway, we picked up the menu, and made selections. For starter, we went for basket full of various dips and dippers, such as potato wedges, deep-fried Brie cheese and the like. This was a dish for one, but even between the three of us we had trouble clearing it. However, it was very nice - cooked properly and didn't taste as if it had been pulled out of the microwave.

For main course I went for a chicken dish with chips and salad, which was well-cooked amnd to my liking, my parents enjoying their dishes as well. It was so filling we skipped dessert.

Service was swift and the staff were kind and helpful, adding to a good experience overall. I'll be going back there, I'm sure.    [27 May 2001 13:31:08]

It's A Pub.
Food is ok as you would expect from a good quality public house. Calling it a restaurant is a bit much    [05 Feb 2006 21:24:37]
