Best fish & chips ever! Definitely worth the wait. Without a doubt the best fish and chips we have ever had. [06 Aug 2005 19:05:25]

Simply better than ever...... This place keeps getting better! We know our fish and chips and these are among the best we've tried - EVER. We had the battered haddock (simply divine) and the smoked haddock (lightly smoked juicy flakes of fresh haddock, mmmmm)with loads of chunky crispy chips. This restaurant is spotless and the assistants friendly and efficient. Will definitely make the 300 mile round trip to visit again! [07 Mar 2006 13:07:53]

Not worth the journey! We made a 30+ mile journey to visit this place. I'd rather go to my local chippy to be honest, the fish is much fresher and tastes better! The drawback was the long queue and the time it took the assistanst to serve people. We waited more than an hour with less then 20 people in front of us. Once we got "the best fish and chips in Scotland" (apparently) the batter was extremely greasy and the fish was literally non existant! No definately not worth the trip. The Waterfront restaurant just along the road is a much better bet. Their fish is delicious, the portions are larger and the staff very friendly. We actually went here when we "binned" the Anstruther Fish Bar food! [08 Apr 2007 13:37:32]

Simply AWESOME! What a fab place! Fish and chips were out of this world and although we had to wait a long time the service was superb. Highly recommend this place to anyone! [10 Sep 2007 12:16:46]

WORTH THE TRIP FLYING FROM THE US IS NO EASY TRIP,NOT EVEN FOR A SCOTSMAN(GLASGOW).COMING HERE IS TRUELY WORTH IT. THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE BEST OF THE BEST. I HAVE BEEN HERE EVERY TRIP AND I'M ANTICIPATING IT AGAIN THIS SEPTEMBER. IF THEY COULD MOVE THIS TO THE US THEY WOULD MAKE A FORTUNE. LET ME KNOW IF THEY DO,I'LL BE THEIR FIRST CUSTOMER. Well Worth The Visit. Our friends took us (my wife and I) for a drive down the coast for the day and suggested fish and chips at "the best place in Scotland". (We are Aussies). We weren't disapointed with the meal. Fantastic!!!! I have just recommended your business on talkback radio in Melbourne. Well Done. Hope to get back in the next couple of years. Quality speaks for itself! Generous portions, lovely light crispy batter on the fish, very tasty lightly fried chips.
There are several contenders for the best chippy in the UK on Scotland's east coast, and this one is definitely up there. [05 Oct 2008 15:31:09]

Don't waste your time or money Having heard about the award-winning Anstruther Fish Bar, we decided to go today for lunch. Have to say, we were bitterly disappointed. The place was very busy - particularly given it was the last Monday in March. We were ushered to a small table in a corridor and constantly buffered and jostled by waiters and other customers going to and fro. Hubby chose the halibut at £10.10 and I had the haddock supper. I got three very small pieces of fish although what I did have was nice but they were only halves of a fish. Hubby's halibut was a small portion and thoroughly overcooked. The chips were okay - but could have been cooked more. For the money, the surroundings and presentation are very poor. Cardboard 'plates' and polystyrene bowls are not what I expect when a main meal costs in excess of £10. Also, the tea was awful and when I complained I was told it is made from tea granules - yuk! To add insult to injury we were overcharged by £8.30 on the final bill. If you do feel you want to try the Anstruther Fish Bar - go for takeaway and enjoy sitting in the car watching the view but you would have been better off going elsewhere. [31 Mar 2009 14:01:51]
