Great restaurant
Went to circus Cafe during Easter. Place was packed. Great food and great value. Far better than all the chain restaurants on George Street.    [10 May 2006 05:56:12]

Circus? well it's run by clowns
No disrespect to clowns caused I hope - nice idea - up market brasserie styleing although beginning to look a bit tierd and actually grubby in places. 3 of us left standing at the front door for 5 minutes before the 5 staff running a 1/3rd full resraurant noticed us and we were waved in the general direction of a unclean table. 5 more minutes passed before we were handed menus and a further 5 before our order was taken - 1 plate mussels, 1 greek salad, 1 eggs benedict, 3 chips and 1 green salad. 15 minutes later mussels and greek salad turn up - no sign of eggs - a further 10 miutes - no sign of eggs - query staff -they won't be long - sadly for them we could see the order still hanging up on the chef's tracker - 15 minutes later - no eggs - chips cold - staff - I'll find out what's happeneing - 10 minutes later companions have finished - I have a train to catch and I tell the manager not to bother and to cancel the order - eggs turn up - repeat the don't bother explain I have a train to catch - manager - no apology by the way - says he'll take it off the bill - I say he'll also take the side salad and cold chips off as well - questioned that because there was nothing wrong with the salad - pointed out it was a side salad and was to accompany the main dish - begrudgingly takes off orders and presents us with bill - one of his staff has the grace to apologise. leave in a bad mood

pretentious, badly run - no communication between staff and kitchen grubby decor sloppy service - verdict - don't bother - there are better and cheaper places in Edinburgh.    [29 May 2006 09:01:27]

Loved It
I had the risotto and my partner the soup and pate. The service was good and friendly. Liked the music and the huge lights, most impressed.
