The menu sounded OK if pretentious. The staff were friendly and the service good. But the food - dear oh dear oh dear. Vastly overpriced and very badly cooked. The Usk Inn clearly thinks it's something it's not - a quality restaurant that can charge fairly high prices for imaginative use of good ingredients. The wild boar is to be avoided at all costs unless shoe repairing is required. the crayfish tails come with that good old standby from the 70s - the marie rose sauce! The roasted cod was OK but was let down by some very unappetising peppers that had clearly seen better days. the vegetables were poorly presented and mindnumbingly dull although the boiled carrots were nice. And that's the most complimentary thing I can find to say about the whole experience. We will not be returning after what was a deeply disappointing expereince    [16 Jun 2005 09:01:42]
