Disappointing Experience This must be the worst advert for vegetarianism in Wales! It lacks the appeal of a good veggie cafe but has all the misplaced pretensions of a poor restaurant.
When we visited the food was unimaginative, the service was slipshod and the place lacks the ambience required for an evening restaurant. [15 Jul 2001 12:14:13]

A very different experience from the 1st review! What a completely different experience I've had from the first reviewer in the three times I've eaten here over the last 4 months.
The ambience is a relaxed, informal, bright wood, slightly Ikea-type, but pleasant enough for all that. The menu is a 21st century view of Moosewood I guess, tho not so stodgy. Freshly made stuffed aubergines, salads and desserts.
Service - well you could call it slipshod I suppose (as the first reviewer did) but I think it's just simple service, unpretentious, and suits the place.
This is a small but very pleasant vegetarian restaurant for relaxing with friends, serving food that would satisfy carnivores, and I for one am delighted its in our midst. The Penarth place - Tomkins? - is pretty superb, but its doing something different than The Greenhouse.

The Greenhouse is Fantastic The Greenhouse consistently has imaginative dishes, superbly cooked, in a charming, inviting, intimate atmosphere. Indeed, some dishes are probably the best food I've ever tasted.
The Greenhouse is a high-class restaurant for ordinary people, with realistic prices. The Chef, Ian, is under-valued at such an uncentral location. [22 Jul 2003 08:02:30]

it's better This restaurant is seriously good - I think the ownership has changed because as a qualified foodie (from Berkeley CA of all places!!) I was really happy with it. It's not always stellar but it has soul and a nice atmosphere and the house wine is excellent. [09 Aug 2004 11:55:40]

What a waste of money! What a terrible evening we had there – never again! I took my parents there and I was embarrassed. I’ve never seen such bad service in my life. It was like a fridge inside – we all had to wear our coats throughout our meals – and the owner even joked by saying that we looked cold!
We had to wait an hour and a quarter for our meals and when mine did finally arrive it was stone cold and I had to send it back for it to be put in the microwave! The choice on the menu was limited to 3! This was suppose to be an alternative experience with choices galore to pick from – but no what I had was an extremely average, non imaginative menu!
