Great Food, Great Service
I've sampled many dishes at this restaurant, and have never been disappointed. The food is good and the portions are large. The service is good and the decor is traditional, light and bright. Muy buena - tres estrellas!    [14 Feb 2004 17:07:13]

Great food!!
I visited Tucson recently and found this restaurant by accident. The food was fantastic! The wait staff was very attentive and nice.

We even went out of our way on the way back to Phoenix to eat there a second time two days later.    [08 Apr 2004 21:50:33]

OK food, but Great Fresh Tortillas
We have been meaning to try Las Cazuelitas de Tucson for a number of months, but in general, we just kept driving right by it. So finally, we made a command decision and stopped in on a Thursday.

The place was crowded and boisterous, with live music off in one corner. Even so, we were seated immediately, and presented a fairly extensive menu. It's large enough that everyone should be able to find something they like.

One of us chose the Chile Rellanos (we try them at every Mexican restaurant that offers them), and the other the Enchilada Sonorenses (flat corn enchiladas). While waiting on our meal, we snacked on the chips and salsa, and when the bowl was nearly empty, the waiter snatched it up and promptly returned with more. We didn't even have to ask.

The meals arrived, and the portions were huge: two chile rellanos, and two enchiladas, and a good portion of refried beans and rice as the obligatory sides. Both dishes had a topping of crumbled queso blanco (white cheese) which was a nice touch. And, the best, we got a basket of fresh off the grill tortillas (a woman was off on the side making them throughout the evening).

The tortillas were by far the highlight of the meal, hot and delicious. We don't think we've had better tortillas anywhere else. These were positively outstanding! Unfortunately, the rest of the food was just OK. The enchilada sauce had very little flavor, and the enchiladas themselves had a slightly burnt taste. The Chiles were good, but had a bit too much batter for our tastes, and the rice and beans were pretty much as one would get at any Mexican restaurant.

After dinner, we ordered a slice of Tres Leches (three milk) cake for desert, and this too was OK, but a bit on the grainy side. While made on the premises, we have to say that we've had better Tres Leches elsewhere.

Overall, we would go back for more of those tortillas, perhaps ordering a side of rice and beans to go along. That would easily be a great meal!    [31 Dec 2004 17:43:15]
