Very Disappointed I took my finace there for our one-year anniversary as a couple. I had heard lots of good things about the food, ambience, etc.
At first we were pleased, as the host and sommelier were very attentive. The the problems started. The room is very small, and tables are practically on top of each other, so there is a constant din of chatter. To make matters worse, desert is served from a pastry tray that was parked next to our table. With the aisles so small, we were effectively trapped.
Our waitress came over to run down the specials, then disappeared to devote all her time to the large party seated across from us. We had to complain to the manager in order to get her to return. Then the sommelier returned to take our wine order. Since I was having duck and Ruth was having veal, we asked him to recommend a glass of something to go with each. He refused to do so, saying he would only recommend full or half bottles. We settled on a bordeaux, which was ok.
You expect the plating at a "fine dining" establishment to be a work of art. Our entrees were slopped on our plates as if it was done by a hash-slinger at Denny's. Not only that, both the veal and the duck were overcooked and tough, and the potatoes au gratin were so well done it was like eating potato chips.
In fairness, the mushroom bisque soup and the grand marnier souffle desert were wonderful.
If this were an ordinary, every day restaurant we would have left satisfied. But the kind of money Le Rendezvous gets as a "fine dining" establishment is better spent at places like Anthony's, Fuego, Acacia, or Sullivan's. [15 May 2006 11:53:26]
