Sublime Cooking, Great ingredients! My family has been driving the corridor between Oregon and Arizona for years. We hate eating at those run of the mill replica restaurants that cook their meals by the numbers or out of a package prepared somewhere in Asia. We are always looking for the local experience. Rolling into Alturas on 299, we spotted this interesting restaurant attached to a working cattle auction yard (it is very small in relation, look for the billboard and yellow house across the street and a big gravel drive in front, about 30 ft off the highway). Cozy and quaint do not go far enough in describing the decor. The patrons all seem to be friends of the owner, many of them working ranchers from the area. The food is another story. Sublime does not go far enough. This is true down home country cooking. I love the biscuits and gravy for the lard in the batter and the beef gravy. Their burgers are great, too. You can't go wrong here, except maybe with the salad (I mean salad in beef country?). [21 Sep 2007 13:32:42]
