Arcata
Description
Bistro and ice creamery. Hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, soups, own premium ice creams (made in Arcata), bakery, organic and fair trade coffees, teas and espressos. Kind of an intimate old French cafe motif in a historic 1800s building (the Jacoby Storehouse). On the central plaza across from the Post Office.

The Best Ice Cream in the World (and I'm not exaggerating) This place has the best ice cream I've ever had the pleasure of eating. The only flavor I don't care for is when they made Rum Raisin. I'll take my rum in a glass with pineapple juice, thank you! You really can't go wrong with any of their treats, but I recommend having simple scoops without toppings in order to appreciate the beauty of their creations. But if you're really craving that banana split or milkshake, you can bet it will be the best you've ever had. It would be a sin to leave this place without at least tasting these three flavors: ginger, green tea and lemon poppyseed. I know, I know, when I tell people about these flavors, they crinkle their nose in distaste. But the only reason is because these are flavors not common to ice cream, but they should be! These three flavors are delicious on their own, but together, they are sublime! I moved away from Humboldt county four years ago, and I still have dreams (day and night) about that green tea ice cream. I've thought about getting them to send me some, but being ice cream and all, it would probobly be cheaper just to drive there and get it myself. I didn't much care for the food, but that's just personal, as I saw a lot of people eat there. Go for the ice cream and stay for some more. [22 Aug 2006 20:50:06]
