I've been dining at Johnny Reb's since they were located back in Long Beach. I tell you what, they have some of the best BBQ around. The ambiance is very authentic to the Southern living. For those of you not visited the Southern States, I highly recommend this dining experience. The item that got me back in the days was the ice tea is served in original mason jars. Since then, some other Southern food restaurants in the L.A. have copied this original concept. If you are in the Los Angeles area, come and try some of the wonderful Southern cooking! Good Home Cookin' Upon arriving I was seated very quickly after being greeted by a number of their staff. They have an area for "outside" dining that is screened in. It is perfect for people watching as they stroll down Bellflower Blvd. It also has heaters to take the chill off if you go in the evening. The inside dining area is nice, but rustic. No cushions, but comfortable. The decore is pure country. From old license plates to antique farm tools hang from the walls. Anything "Southern" and country will be found to add to the country atmosphere. The food was delivered quickly and is delicious. If you want spicy, you can get it. Condiments are at the table. Peanuts are at the table also and you are encouraged to toss the shells on the floor. Donations are accepted for the peanuts and the money is given to good causes. If you want a special treat, go on your birthday. Better yet, go on a friends birthday. There is a celebration that you and your friend will remember for a while. I had the full rack of beef ribs. You had better be hungry to finish this plate of food. It comes with a couple of "fixins" that will complete your experience. Biscuits, hushpuppies, cole slaw, greens, beans, stew and more to choose from. [22 Oct 2004 14:20:54]
