Food...umm, Service...uhh My friends and I decided to try this newer Mexican restaurant to see if it would measure up to all the seasoned restaurants in the area, well it didn't. I was surprised that I needed to have my burrito specially made Chimichanga-style, as it wasn't a regular menu item like most restaurants in the area. As the food finally came I was shocked to see French fries on my plate, odd to say the least. I was starting to think I was at a McDonald’s south of the border. Nonetheless I ate the food that was before me. The food lacked a lot of flavor and it tasted more like the oil it was fried in rather than the contents in the chimichanga itself. I'd also like to chime in about the service. Our food took an extremely long time to come and the waiter was not very personable. We even noticed him chatting it up with his co-workers when our order appeared to be ready. I was not impressed at all with Chapala. [27 Dec 2004 01:59:56]

Chapoo la Went there when it first opened. The service was o.k. but they said they were out of chicken? I would think that this is not something you are going to want to say on the opening night of your restaurant. My wife and I agreed that the food was lukewarm and lacking in flavor. Just not impressed overall with the place. I would usually give a place another chance, but I won't this time. [04 Feb 2005 21:33:05]

Good Food Depends on what you eat there birria is very good its the best. At the beginning of the opening they were not that good but they have gotten better. The service is good but it depends on who you get they have some very rude waiters there but there are also some that are very attentive to ones needs. You can change you food you can add or substitute things on the menu. [03 Feb 2007 01:02:26]

Bland and overpriced We thought we would give this place a try since we were in the area and needed some lunch. I prefer to avoid chain restaurants and hoped it might be a hidden gem. Perhaps I am expecting too much from the suburbs but this place really sucked.
The "grilled" chicken burrito seemed to contain boiled, flavorless meat, bland beans (Canned?) and a lifeless salsa. It was not good, nor was it very large and at $7.95 seemed overpriced to me. The chicken chimichanga was quite similar except deep fried, same bland chicken and filling. The chips and guacamole were OK but the salsa they gave us either came from a can or used a canned salsa as its model. Perhaps I am spoiled by all the great Mexican food available in the Bay Area. Pretty much ANY taqueria in SF is better and less expensive. Don't waste your time. [05 May 2007 23:35:51]
