Very Disappointing I was very disappointed in their food. Although expensive compared to their competition, the quality, quantity and authenticity were very poor. The service needed lots of help too. And the atmosphere didn't do anything for me either. They added new meaning to the term "road kill." It seemed more like a cheap south-of-the-border bar than a restaurant. I felt like we wasted or "flushed" our money, and we won't be going back. [12 Feb 2004 17:02:53]

Nice Place I thought the food was full of flavor and the servings were great for the price. The atmosphere seemed very comforting, like that of an old family owned restaurant. The service was satisfactory. Overall I the place was a nice experience that I would recommend to anyone. [16 Feb 2005 09:35:57]

In Brentwood/Oakley Mia's Is Superior I have been to every Mexican restaurant in Brentwood/Oakley (except Jalisco, which I'd like to try)--Mia's is clearly superior to its competition. I have heard that Mia's is more expensive. I don't find it more expensive in any meaningful way. Furthermore, I will pay for good food; and I will not pay any sum for mediocre food. I have heard that other places offer larger portions. I find Mia's portions more than adequate. Furthermore, more of mediocre food is still mediocre food. I have found the setting at some other places to be sterile and the food to be pedestrian.
Here's why Mia's is superior in my view: They use a fresh pepper in their chiles rellenos. Their jalapeno and cheese tamal (on a good night which is most nights) is moist, spicy, and delicious. The chile verde is full of pieces of tender pork with a piquant, savory, and delicious green chile sauce. The machaca is extra spicy and full of pieces of tender pork. The beans and rice are flavorful and have a nice texture. I like to wash these dishes down with a glass of the sangria. As for setting and service: The atmosphere is colorful and lively. The service is prompt and cheerful; and when there is a problem it is quickly resolved. [28 Apr 2005 14:58:35]

Mango, Baby I've eaten there a couple times and the food is good. Not outstanding, but good. Their Mango Margaritas are, however, excellent. Yum. [05 Aug 2005 16:40:21]

Mia's Is Good Mia's and El Gallito are the best in town. Never had a problem with Mia's and the food is very good. [01 Jun 2006 23:57:36]

Great Restaurant Excellent Food Mia's restaurant was great - a real family oriented feel to it. The food was great! The bar and outdoor patio were relaxing and the drinks were outstanding! I've since left the area-but would recommend Mia's to anyone looking for a delicious, comforting meal. [30 Jan 2007 23:15:48]
