Nice family spot I've eaten here for years. Originally, it was one of Camarillo's few spots to eat out and it has a nice ambiance with owls and a fountain. The food is decent, but nothing exceptional. You will not go away hungry. [19 Sep 2003 15:46:21]

El Tecolote I grew up in Camarillo in the 60's. I used to play pool at the Boys Club a block away for tacos at El Tecolote. Several times per month, our family would have Sunday night dinner at El Tecolote. I would without hesitation visit El Tecolote on my next visit to Camarillo. [11 Feb 2005 09:40:08]

Mediocre at best Very mediocre Mexican restaurant. The food was just okay. I'd recommend pretty much any other Mexican place in Camarillo over this one. [02 Dec 2005 18:56:49]

Best Mexican in Camarillo No Mexican restaurant has outlasted this one. Genuine and delicious. Family atmosphere with healthy portions. My favorite is the chips and salsa, free with your meal. They are home made and the best. We have been coming here for years, you can spot our owls on the shelf by the kitchen. The owners are very personable and friendly like the service. Most Authentic in Camarillo Although there are not too many choices for good Mexican food in Camarillo, this is the most authentic Mexican food in Camarillo. If you are looking for "Americanized" Mexican food like El Torito, etc., you will probably not like this place. Too bad the decor and building haven't been updated since the 1950's. Its a shame because the food is very good.
I had the chicken tacos with green salsa which were excellent. My wife had the carne asada tacos which she also liked. Wait staff was friendly. I wish they would remodel the place, though. [07 Sep 2006 15:26:59]

Purdy Good This place is not very authentic. More like a homemade version of El Torito. But it is good. Most of the stuff on the menu is delectable despite it being watered down Mexican food. Prices are reasonable for a dine in restauraunt. Has a very nice "at home" feeling to it and overall worth the experience. Just don't order the ground beef tacos. [12 Sep 2006 18:44:06]

Too Bad A new owner took over in April, and has made renovations, too bad he isn't stopping there. Orginally it seemed as if this would be a good thing, but he is taking the "family" out of this family restaurant. He is replacing the "familiar" staff with all new young "kids", and soon the customers are just going to be an order on a check, no longer a familiar face/friend. The food itself has changed also,as have the marguaritas. Soon the El Tecolote that has been serving Camarillo and it's surrounding areas is just going to be another place to eat with nothing special about it. What a shame. Mike would be very disappointed.
