Katsu is Great Katsu is a really nice little place to eat. It has a following of locals and people come from quite far away to enjoy the sushi creations of mr. Katsu himself. The prices are fair and the people are friendly. [05 Jan 2005 18:52:34]

A sushi gem! Katsu, named for its sushi chef, is an unlikely gem of a Japanese restaurant in an unassuming row of shops tucked away in the shopping area near Albertsons.
My wife and I eat here often and like the consistency and high quality of both the food and the service. She generally gets the beef teriyaki / tempura combination dinner, which comes with miso soup, salad and rice. The beef is almost always extremely tender and cooked exactly as she orders it. The tempura is light and crispy with a flavorful dip.
The miso soup is good. The salad is wonderful with a miso dressing. My wife usually asks for more miso dressing to go with her rice and the staff are happy to oblige.
I alternate between a la carte nigiri sushi and several of the combination dishes. The sushi ranges from good to magical with the kaibashira (scallop) being one of the absolute melt-in-the-mouth delights here!
The staff are always very helpful and polite and have even accommodated us with a group of 8-10 friends, despite the seating being for 2's and 4's.
The restaurant is small but discretely partioned so dining is still an intimate experience and overall it has the same feel as some of the sushi bars I've visited in Tokyo (which is a good thing!).
They also have a range of saki on offer and provide a reasonably priced "taster" selection.
In theory the restaurant is open seven days a week but it is sometimes randomly closed. We believe this is when the chef does not find fresh fish to match his needs. [19 Sep 2005 01:27:43]
