Food okay but overpriced
Perhaps because it's the only Italian joint in town and because nearby Hoppe's Bistro is rather expensive, this place feels their prices are justified. But I do NOT think that $16 to $22 for an entree ONLY is justified. The entrees include nothing; no salad, no soup, or nibblies - just a small basket of bread for the table. And they even ran out of bread when we were there! I should mention that we did not arrive at the last minute when a lack of foods might be expected. They had also run out of desserts.

The food was good, but not excellent. But because of the prices I can only rate this as decent. Also, they advertise it as 'romantic' but it isn't really. The surfaces are all hard (cement floor, metal chairs) and it gets quite loud in there. I think next time I'd rather try a different place.    [01 Sep 2006 02:05:34]

Good -- and Good Value
Had the Caesar salad, spaghetti and meatballs and veal . . . wine list was well-chosen and very well-priced.

Both dishes were good . . . good marinara, good sauce with the veal. I don't agree with the other reviewer here who says the place is overpriced -- while it's not cheap, it's right in line with other restaurants, with like pricing for primi, secondi, etc.    [11 Jun 2007 12:58:55]

I have been going to Cafe Della Via over the last few years on an average of three to four times per year. I have a yen for the Central Coast during the summer months -- which is a welcome break from the temps in the Valley. During my several dining experiences there at Cafe Della Via, there were plusses and minuses. I have found the food to be superb; Chef Chris Beckett out does himself on the chicken marsala. The ambiance is okay, nothing special. The service, however, over the years I have noticed has remained very, and I do stress very, poor. I was there last night and the restaurant max capacity is about 60. They were busy; however, I do not think five minutes waiting time standing inside of the restaurant before being acknowledged is justified. The servers are not particularly friendly and the busboy acts as the maitre d'. Not to mention that the espresso machine has been out since last July! Getting a refill on a regular cup of coffee is like pulling teeth. In my opinion, the only two thing the Cafe Della Via has going for it is that it is in Cayucos, which is gorgeous, and their Chef Chris Beckett.
