Good drinks, crappy food and service
A group of my friends and I decided to go here for a little Christmas get together. We arrived at our reservaton time of 8pm. We had faxed over our orders ahead of time to cut down on our wait since we were a large party. We were seated at 8:10pm. It took 40 minutes for our salad and soups to come. The Caesar salad had a very thin coat of dressing and we waited another 10 minutes for an additional cup of dressing. Our food was brought to us an hour and a half after we were seated. The food smelled wonderful but we were quickly disappointed. Most of us had ordered the paella. The rice had too much saffron and no other spices. The seafood was extremely overcooked. Ten minutes after our food arrived our bill was thrown on the table and we were told we had 10 minutes to clear out. Upon inspecting our bill we found they were trying to charge us 31% gratuity on a $360.00 bill. As we were going over the bill waiters came to our table and snatched half eaten plates from party members. No offer of to-go boxes. Needless to say we did not pay the $111.60 gratuity. We will not return to this restaurant.    [10 Dec 2006 14:50:22]

Good Drinks, Excellent Food and Service
A founding member of our fun-loving old geezers' (65 and up) hiking group chose Agave, which was close to where he lived, as the place for our quasi-weekly post-hike dinner. It was scheduled for 6 p.m., but didn't get going until about 6:30 p.m., because one member drove back to Oakland to shower after the hike and retrieve his wife (as well as my wife and mother-in-law) and got trapped in the rush-hour traffic.

Three of us less fastidious souls arrived a bit earlier, around 5:00 p.m. or so, and ordered two draft beers and a
Dinner was excellent. I had an outstanding Chile Verde. The chile verde sauce was delicious. I asked for and promptly received a doggie bag to bring the surplus sauce home in. Other members likewise asked for doggie bags. My wife and very elderly mother-in-law shared a large but tasty hamburger, while my wife also "stole" some of "my" chile verde. Other members of the group ordered Chile Agave, steak (?) fajitas, and enchilada suizas. Some also ordered wine or beer with their meals. We finished up with four orders of flan, which was firm, moist and bathed in a caramelized sauce. Yum. All reported their food was either good or really good. We were a group of nine (eight and a half?), but had two excellent waiters who were both friendly and polite. The lead waitress was petite, quite attractive and poised. The bill was reasonable, at $206.58, which included a reasonable tip of about 15%, but we threw in an extra $10. I'd recommend Agave to anyone who was looking for a very friendly place to meet and have a few drinks and an excellent Mexican meal. We certainly had that!    [22 Sep 2007 01:11:40]

Okay Place, Good Food
Our party of eight arrived with some of us a bit late; the hostess made sure we were well served and entertained until the rest of the party was there. We ordered mostly Mexican specialties, such as steak fajitas (recommended) and their shrimp appetizer. The first of the group were treated to happy-hour prices, and were quite pleased with the freebies that accompanied their drinks.

I agree with the other reviewer that it isn't wonderful to tack on a gratuity to the bill, but we happily paid it -- I think to the tune of 15%. It was worth it; our hostess was very attentive and pleasant.    [22 Sep 2007 16:21:43]

Great Food, the BEST Drinks!
My party and I attended this restaurant for my and my wife's anniversary. We had made a reservation, and once we arrived, we were seated promptly with no problems. Once seated, we were astounded by the many different choices of drinks this place had (made this special night very fun). The staff was very helpful in offering meal suggestions. I suggest paella and the steak picado -- very yummy. We arrived close to the closing of the restaurant and decided to stay for the club part. A little while after the restaurant closed, the place became very lively and enjoyable. This place has two different music rooms, one that primarily plays Salsa music and the other Hip-Hop. So if you like to listen to Latin music, I definitely suggest the Salsa room. All in all, this was the perfect place for a romantic evening. I cannot wait to visit this place again. Hopefully my wife will bring me here as a surprise.    [23 Dec 2007 04:16:21]

The Best Margaritas!
I'm Latin, so I really know how Mexican food should taste . . .

My friend invited me to celebrate her birthday at Agave. I was impressed by how delicioso the food was. The service was outstanding. We had such a good time that we decided to stay for the salsa dancing. The owner was very polite; he came over to our table several times to make sure everything was okay. It was wonderful!    [21 Feb 2008 20:05:22]
