Our Favorite in OC
Located in the Dana Point Harbor area, Gemmell's is about a block from the water. While the decor is nothing to write home about; the food is excellent, when we want a great meal, we head here. With a menu offering enough variety for everyone, there is an emphasis on seafood, but if you like beef, there is a great strip steak with a green peppercorn sauce. We haven't missed yet. And the onion soup is the best I have ever had (we have tried onion soup from Washington DC to San Francisco).
On the downside: in general the service has been very good, but out of five visits, on one, after getting our dinner, the waiter disappeared, and on another visit, the staff was somewhat inattentive.    [20 Feb 2006 13:00:37]

Great Food but POOR Service
The food was delicious but because the service was so very poor, we can't even recall the dishes we enjoyed. Not once were our glasses refilled, we couldn't even catch any of the staff's attention- it was as if we became invisable once our meal was served. It was obvious that our server knew she had not done a satisfactory job and that we were disappointed and yet nothing was done to remedy the matter.    [27 Dec 2006 17:39:21]

Fantastic place. I believe the other reviewers had an off night.
We found this place about 15 months ago. We have been there at least a dozen times and we always have amazing service regardless of how busy they have been. Bryon's food is always amazing. This is the first time we have posted a review and we decided to because the restaurant is too good and shouldn't be judged unfairly. p.s. we wanted to keep it our secret    [10 Jan 2007 18:15:48]
