Business 101 My wife and I went to Patrick David's on 6/23/03 (my wife's birthday). We arrived and were seated at 5:55 PM. We had no knowledge of their "Sunset Special" which expired at 6:00PM, so that was not the reason we went there. Since the menu that was presented to us included the "Sunset Special", we thought it sounded like a excellent selection, so we decide to order two of them. In the meantime, we ordered a $46 bottle of wine, which was brought to our table at 6:02PM. We then asked the waitress if we could order the "Sunset Special". She said, "I have to check the time" and ran off to confer with whomever. She returned within 1 minute and announced that the "kithen was closed" for Sunset Specials and advised us that management was VERY STRICT about people waiting until the last minute to want the "Sunset Special". I said, "Fine, we will order from the regular menu", which we did. The meals were good, and our tab was $139 (including tip) which was probably a few dollars more than the "Sunset Special would have been. Here is the situation I find myself in. (1) I will never go back to Patrick Davids AND(2)I will tell everyone I know about our experience, and living in Danville. I don't want to sound pretentious, but we can afford to dine where ever and whenever we please, so we don't go around searching for bargains, but we are also not idiots. Patick Davids will survive without our business, but it will be without our business and that of everyone we can influence. [24 Jun 2003 01:56:27]

I've lived in Danville the last 10 years and enjoyed watching Patrick David's develop and metamorphose into one of the top restaurants in the East Bay. Especially love the atmosphere since the remodel! The Chocolate Souffle is absolutely to die for (order in advance), and all of the dining experiences that I've had have been wonderful. I can't imagine a bad experience that's to be attributed to the restaurant. [22 Oct 2003 01:51:54]

Below Standard Experience Patrick David has always been "our place" for special occaisions. Yesterday we were disappointed that lunch was below standard (for the second time).
The lobster potstickers, always a favorite were as tough and chewy as the potstickers in a $2.98 Chinese buffet. I suspect they were warmed over from the day before. The entrees were seafood-although there was nothing wrong with either dish, they lacked the "finish" that would have boosted them over the ordinary. Service was OK but our server seemed disinterested. This is the second time that the general ambience of the restaurant seemed to "take it all for granted." Yesterday was our last visit there. A good restaurant in Danville I'm a food snob, no doubt about it, and I think it's nearly impossible to have a great meal east of the Caldecott tunnel. ( Va de Vi in Walnut Creek however is quite good.)
Went to lunch at PD's in mid June. I was surprised - not a bad restaurant at all. Considering the options available in Danville, this restaurant makes my list. Nothing too creative here, but the flavors all worked together. [29 Jun 2005 19:45:04]

Catering from Patrick David's My wife and I have been to the trendy restaurant one time. We had great service and great food. We decided to hire them to cater a party we had for some friends. BIG MISTAKE!!!!! First of all they ran out of salad and bread. The catering staff was rude and were running around like chickens with their heads cut off! The food was alright, but the service was so bad that it's really not worth the amount of money they charge. [10 Oct 2005 20:03:43]

Best Service Ever! I have been to Patrick David's for the last year, and I am totally in love with it. The food is some what pricey but it's totally worth it. When I go there for lunch, I will order a warm spinach salad and a glass of their Sonoma Cutrer, sit out on the patio and enjoy. For dinner, they have an amazing Ahi wakame roll dish which I can never get enough of. Also they offer a tapas menu at their trendy bar which includes everything from sushi to crab margarita. One of the bartenders make the best mojitos I have ever had in the Tri-valley area. The host is always very welcoming, the service is amazing. The last time I was there, there was this cute Asian girl server who waited on my table and she really knows what she is talking about. I have never had a bad experience there before. In fact, I recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family! [06 Sep 2006 01:20:33]

I have been to Patrick David's many times. Service has always been friendly yet classy. Food was amazing in everyway; presentation, quality, and taste. As for the review below, please. The Sunset is from 5-6 PM. Not 5-6:01 or 6:02, or even 6:05. Establishments have policies in place for a reason! [09 Oct 2006 06:23:36]

Maybe OK For Danville The pork chop was overcooked, the lamb was overcooked. Caesar salad had no flavor. The blob of cabbage and potato whatever was inedible. Good service doesn't make up for lousy food! [19 Oct 2006 12:42:00]

Not for Foodies This is a nice suburban restaurant, which is priced like a fine dining establishment, but lacks the serious attention to detail in the kitchen, and the teamwork among the wait staff to be better than mediocre. My last meal there our entrees were served one at a time over an eighteen minute period, while the waiter dealt with other tables and kept himself otherwise entertained. My coffee was re filled twice, with an average delay of twenty minutes between empty and re-filled, this while the place was half empty. One thing that really sticks in my craw is the "Chocolate Souffle". Anyone who likes to eat out, should know what a souffle is; a light fluffy dish, either sweet or savory that is based on whipped egg whites, and is so delicate that it is considered a true test of a chef's skills. The dense gooey flour based chocolate desert served here is closer to a lava cake served at Applebees or available at Trader Joe's in the freezer, than to a true souffle. Next the will Patrick David's call a strip steak a fillet, or bacon panchetta. It is safe to assume that the regulars won't care or know any better. [13 Mar 2007 14:45:02]
