Mmmm -- BBQ! Chris' & Pitts restaurant in Downey is truly a treat. A place you can go with your family and friends for a great bbq style meal. The steak is always tender and juicy, the ribs are cooked to perfection -- I've never had a bad Chris' & Pitts meal. Be sure to wear your comfy clothes -- you'll want to finish every bite. This is NOT one of those quiet restaurants. Crying kids are welcome. [23 Nov 2003 00:37:38]

Love the Place, But... I love Chris'n'Pitts Restaurants, but for the past two years, I have been consistently disappointed in one of their dishes: the Beef Barbecue Ribs. At the Downey restaurant, they arrive at my table, lukewarm and drenched with their bottled barbecue sauce. Instead of the meat practically falling off of the bone, it usually turns out to be chewy and dry.
Initially, I thought that maybe I picked the wrong weekday to order ribs, so I made a concerted effort to arrive when the place was consistently busy and the meal turnover was exceptionally high--thereby insuring that my order of Beef Barbecue Ribs would be freshly made. Despite my Friday night and Sunday night experiments, the Beef Barbecue Ribs were still a hit and miss.
However, you do get good value for your money here, so now I just stick to their other consistently well-made dishes like their steaks and breaded pork chops dinners. [09 Jan 2004 03:24:46]

How about a Chris&Pitts In Ventura! I really think that there should be a Chris&Pitts in Ventura, Californa or some where nearby. You guys took out the one near L.A. And now it's going to be a Walgreens. I take my family and friends there every time I get. When I would go down in that area for busness I would stop by and get food and bring it back to the guys that work for me. I really think that you should think about a Chris&Pitts in or near Ventura. You guys would be bringing in a lot of money and happy customers. [15 Jan 2004 19:50:10]

Raised on it! Our family has eaten at Chris & Pitts all my life! Before this one opened, we went to the one that used to be over on Paramount complete with sawdust on the floor and jukebox directories at each table! What fun. The food is all great. [13 Mar 2004 14:23:50]

My Favorite Place To Eat!! I was raised on Chris N Pitts because there used to be one within walking distance of my house in Rosemead. I had also eaten at the locations in Bell, Whittier, and Downey, so when the Rosemead restaurant closed, I adopted the DOwney location as my new hangout. Not only is the food great with huge portions for a low price, but the service is excellent. The mojority of the servers are friendly and efficient, and they are like a second family to me. No matter how crowded the place is, the service is fast and the food is always great. [06 Jul 2006 03:56:22]

Been going to Chris and Pitts for 50 years The place has gone from sawdust floors, picnic benches and a jukebox to booths, tile floors and so-so waitresses, but the hickory smell, ribs and chocolate malts are good as ever. The one in Bellflower just started taking charge cards. You can't beat the top sirloin, center cut ribs, baby backs and blue cheese.
The chicken is suspect, sometimes it tastes like a 2 day hold over. If you can't see them on the rotisserie, go for the beef. [31 Jul 2006 20:23:05]

Favorite restaurant in the world To whom it may concern:
My family and I have been loyal customers to Chris n Pitts since I was an infant. I was born in Santa Ana, CA in 1979. I remember the first time I ever ate at the Harbor Blvd. location. My mom had to ask a waitress for a high chair. I had split pea soup and crushed crackers.
As the years rolled on, I soon developed an indulgence for the bbq spare ribs. Then, the garlic bread, and our most favorite appetizer of all, the famous onion rings!!!!
I'm the only son out of four sisters. We all grew up eating there, along with my dad's brothers, sisters, and their families. We've had extended families from New Zealand, Australia, and Samoa that have eaten there. Whenever we had them visit, Chris n Pitts was the place to bring them. We come from a LDS background. Shopping on Sundays or eating out is frowned upon. Yet we always made the exception to have a nice family dinner after church, at Chris n Pitts.
When I graduated from Carr Intermediate Jr. High, our family gathered for lunch at your restaurant. My oldest sister had her 21st Birthday party in the back room. We knew and became acquainted with your employees. Most of whom, would call my dad by "Mr. Mariner."
Years have come and gone, and life finds me here up in "the best snow on earth," Utah. I have married, and have one son. My sisters and cousins have all left Orange County. Yet, whenever we talk or see each other, we mention fond memories of your restaurant. I only wish your restaurant was out here in Utah.
I'm now 28 years old. I have since, graduated from the University of Missouri, with a degree in Business and a minor in Advertising. I now exhort my time as a Loan Officer for Envision Lending, and as a marketing specialist for Media one, an advertising agency for the Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News. I have family up here in Utah. We all wished we had you nearby. My family and I have many fond memories at your fine establishment. If Chris n Pitts ever needed a marketing campaign to drive more customers your way...I would love to help! It is now customary for us to visit your restaurant, anytime we vacation, visit family members or friends in Southern California. In all my travels to St. Louis, Arizona, Texas, Utah, Idaho, Iowa, (pretty much the southern states), Hawaii, Philippines, Tahiti, and Samoa, I have not eaten at any BBQ establishment, that can match your taste. There is no equal. For this purpose, I have written this letter. I speak on behalf of my whole family, when we say, Chris n Pitts is our favorite "family" restaurant. Thanks for the memories!!! I hope this letter will be sent to the corporate level. Keep up the good work. Salt Lake City, UT needs you up here! We need more good memories! Thank you! [12 Feb 2007 10:57:35]
