First time visit and I have to say it is like the oyster that hides a pearl. The food was exceptional with the Thai Shrimp being the standout for the evening. The service was fast on their feet and cordial but could have been a little more fun to match the atmosphere that was jovial, causal and boisterous. Biggest mistake was on my part, not saving room for dessert. Actually this is ok because it gives me something to look forward to on the return trip. This place will have many return trips. A Hidden Gem This place is an Emeryville gem! It has delicous fresh food with an atmosphere good for friends or couples. It also has a full bar so it's a good meeting spot for friends. And don't miss the garlic fries! [06 Jun 2003 19:22:49]

A Consistent Winner For the last 11 years, chef/owner Ellen Hope Rosenberg and her hip and loyal staff have been serving refined "comfort" food in the most comfortable funky interior space. (Imagine Old West meets French Bistro). The full bar serves the finest alcohol with only freshly made mixes and juice and the kitchen never disappoints. Finally, the outside patio is great for seasonal dining or bar patrons who need to grab a smoke. [04 Aug 2003 14:59:10]

highly greasy This is the typical version of the "chic" American cuisine. Highly greasy and tasty for the ones raised thinking that heavy cream, fry-ups and butter are additions/seasoning to a great meal. Horrible after all. I had the pear, goat cheese and radicchio ravioli that was supposed to be served with a goat cheese sauce. The ravioli was good, but soaked in a mixture of thick cream that tasted mostly heavy cream. My husband had the lamb w/ potatoes and asparagus. Everything was shining on his plate. In summary, we both had a hard time digesting it and paying respectively 14.25 and 22.50. Yesterday, I went to Greens in SFco, and coincidently they offered the same dish, which made me wonder of its true taste, naked of horrendous amount of fat! [03 Nov 2003 16:18:55]

The Townhouse: An appealing and varied menu, great food, cool interior, nice atmosphere, courteous wait staff & excellent Martinis. Sorry to hear "highly greasy" above had a bad experience. Every time I've been for dinner, it's been a great time. [09 Aug 2004 20:54:22]
