Poor Judgment in Seating Customers
On Friday, August 15, 2003, my husband and I decided to go to the Hungry Hunter for a quiet dinner. The long work week was very stressful for us. At the restaurant, we were seated in the back room where only one other table was occupied with about 8 women (although they sounded like a batallion of sorts). While our very kind waitress sat us at the other end of the room, it became extremely difficult to hear my husband in the course of our conversation. The ladies seated on the other side of the room were so loud. They screamed, hollered at each other, and were most definitely having a good time. The sad part is that they did not contribute to making our evening a most relaxing one. As a result, my husband and I decided to hurry and rush our dinner. Half way done with my prime rib dinner, I decided I was through with my food. My planned quiet dinner became most unbearable. I was not prepared to have dinner in the midst of loud women, screaming, laughing and carrying on. I found this very distasteful and blamed the seating assignment as poor judgment on the hostess' part. I chose to leave my table and told my husband that I would wait for him by the hostess/greeting area as he offered to stay behind and pay for our dinner. While seated in the greeting/hostess area, I noticed that the hostess and another restaurant employee were busy conversing. I politely interrupted them and cautioned the hostess about seating future guests in the same dining area I was in. I warned her about the loud bunch of ladies and how they ruined the nice quiet dinner my husband and I had anticipated. The hostess apologized and proceeded to talk to the other "male employee". I guess neither the hostess nor the male employee really cared about how I felt. Again, I interrupted their conversation to once again complain about how the loud ladies had ruined my dinner. The hostess apologized and then proceeded to continue her conversation with the other male employee. I started to get a bit agitated because the hostess did not bother to do anything about it. I guess she did not believe me. Finally, I decided to ask her who the manager of the Hungry Hunter in Fairfield was. The hostess gave me a name "Robert Smith". Then, she asked if I needed to speak to the manager. I politely declined as I saw my husband walking towards me, presumably, getting ready to leave the restaurant. On our way to the parking lot, I told my husband about my short conversations with the hostess. My husband then encouraged me to speak to the manager as restaurant managers appreciate comments from customers. I went back inside the hostess area and told the hostess that I have decided to speak to the manager. You should have seen the shock on my face when a "lady" came towards me and identified herself as the manager. (I thought his name was Robert Smith, a man.) At any rate, it did not matter now. I just wanted to get my point across....the poor judgment in seating us in the back room along with these unruly bunch of ladies. The "manager" then politely apologized. She said that I should have said something to my server. I told the "manager" that I did not want to offend the "unruly ladies" who were just there to have a good time. (Frankly, if I was part of the "loud group of ladies", I would have chosen to go to a picnic ground where we could all be "free spirits" and not be a burden to society with all that loud talking and obnoxious behavior. ) Again the "manager" apologized. I told her that in future, perhaps they should sit a couple in a more quiet dining area and sit a bigger group along with other parties of more than five people. As I prepared to leave the restaurant, the "manager" offered me a discount coupon for my next visit to the Hungry Hunter. I declined to accept it, stating that the purpose of my "complaint" was not to get a free meal ticket. I do have some pride. The "manager" insisted and so I took the coupon. Back at our home, my husband and I were relating to our 18 year old son, the experience we had at the Hungry Hunter. He asked to see the $10 off coupon. He took one look at it and started laughing so hard. He said that it expired in 2002. Was the coupon the "manager" offered suppose to add insult to the injury? I was in total disbelief. How dare they treat customers that way.    [17 Aug 2003 02:45:53]

Spinach Salad - Outstanding
My husband and I took our daughter to dinner for her birthday at the Hungry Hunter restaurant in Fairfield, CA. They had a new salad on the menu that was the best ever! It was a spinach, walnut, apple and dried cranberry salad with almonds and a wonderful vinaigrette dressing. I will certainly go back and have that salad again.    [13 Jan 2004 16:40:45]

Food Great, Customer Service Lousy
After our daughter's middle school graduation we decided to have lunch and everything was going great, until the server accidentially spilled a beverage on my pants and shoes. The server apologized and furnished plenty of towels to soak some of the beverage from my pants and dry my shoes. Shortly after the spill a lady approached our table did not identify herself or her position, she merely stated she was sorry about the spill and if she could get anything else for me (I assumed she was talking about food). I said no to her offer for anything else. Not once did anyone say we will pay for the cleaning of your pants or offer any other resolution.    [12 Jun 2006 19:18:13]

A very nice overall experience
My husband took me on a date to Hungry Hunter, Fairfield. We arrived early and the hostess was able to seat us immediately. The dessert tray was in the walkway, and being exposed to everyone walking past, etc., the desserts didn't look their best; it also seemed a bit inconvenient for everyone trying to get through the area to constantly be trying to avoid it, some with large trays, etc. The waiter was attentive, without being overly so.

The tomato zucchini soup was a great start to the meal. The salmon and prime rib were cooked to perfection, nicely seasoned. We were both disappointed in the broccoli, which looked beautiful, yet was not quite done. The raw taste and difficulty cutting were still apparent. We both agreed that about 1 more minute steaming would have probably done it. Everything else was fabulous, including the desserts, and we will definitely return.    [05 Nov 2006 12:22:15]

Very nice
I enjoy Hungry Hunter. I have had good experiences when I went (except one time when the hostess was inattentive). The prime rib is about the best in the area, and my husband had a pepper steak that he raved about. The spinach, walnut, cranberry salad was one of the better salads I've eaten. We go there when we want a good meal for a not too high price and for the prime rib (which to us, is the best in 40 miles.)    [14 Feb 2007 11:29:52]
