This is the kind of place you go to strictly for atmosphere. Step back in time to a place where the waitresses had personality and, no matter how you ordered them, your eggs always come the way they were cooked.

The food here is hard to recommend. Except for the chicken pies themselves, the preparation is not so good. However, this is a place to go to when you are missing the old days when the main reason you went out was for the company.

The best menu advice? Ask the waitress to prepare your eggs "extra hard." You may not get them that way, but the odds are you will start a good conversation.

If you've never been, eating here is a Fresno tradition, and one which should not be missed. Just don't expect Julia Childs.    [30 May 2000 23:13:44]
