Beagle says... Don't miss breakfast at Irene's. This is down home breakfast at its finest. Nothing fancy here. Good coffee, poured regularly and with reckless abandon, eggs scrambled perfectly, thick meaty bacon, perfectly browned and buttered toast. One cannot say enough about a relaxed breakfast at Irene's. Don't expect anything more than what you would get from a breakfast at your aunt's house, other than Irene at the register and a guest list straight from the Tower District (read: not your average Fresnan, but much more interesting). Higgins loves this place The place to go for breakfast to unwind from the previous day. The employees and customers are all kick back which I love (since most of Fresno is not). My buddies (hey Murray) and I go here and have a cup of coffee and some breakfast while we discuss life. You can sit outside and smoke, which I love, and the coffee truly is bottomless. All the food is wonderful, but the service can lag when the place is full. [14 Feb 2001 18:12:59]

It is not bacon.. it is bacon steak Irene's was the first breakfast place I went to in Fresno. Great service, eclectic menu. Try the enchilada omelette, it is amazing. And you must get a side of bacon if it does not come with your meal, the thickest and yummiest (hence, bacon steak). Great coffee, ask for a big cup and they bring you one! They also make tremendous hamburgers and tempting onion rings. Pick a sunny day, sit on the patio, there's lots of people watching to take in. [29 Dec 2005 15:27:01]
