Adequate fare
Waitresses were excellent, but the man tending the bar was quite belligerent and we suspected he was intoxicated. We were there last week of July this year, 2003.    [31 Jul 2003 01:12:07]

Owl Food Fantastic-Managment Leaves Much to Be Desired
This WAS one of our favorite restaurants--the chefs and food and food servers are superb! I have to agree with the other person's comment here as I suspect the "man tending bar" was the owner. We had a 7:00pm reservation for dinner made for 6 people on 4/20 for 4/24. When we arrived, he said he had been trying to reach us (no messages on phone), it would be 7:30. We came back at 7:30 no table. At 7:45pm he came out to tell us the people we leaving the table meant for us. At 7:50 pm not a table was empty in sight after the party left. The owner became belligerent when questioned about how this could happen. He was overhead to tell another guest "I take care of who I have to take care of" in other words we suspect he had seated other "more important" or he suspected "better bar paying guests" at our table in spite of our reservation then was not exactly honest about it. We will not be frequenting during his off-season and will not be recommending our favorite food place to anyone. We owned a successful small business in GVly until we sold 4/1. This is not how to treat your loyal customers!    [25 Apr 2004 09:27:48]

New Owners, Same Great Food
My husband and I have been frequenting the Owl for several years, and were delighted when the head-chef, Bobby McKnight, purchased the restaurant from the former owner in 2005. Since this time the food has continued to be excellent and the management seems to have improved drastically. The "man in the bar" as mentioned in previous reviews is no longer there, and I believe the service is quite excellent. We look forward to a continued relationship with the Owl into the future.    [11 Jun 2006 03:41:48]

Consistently great food and service
My family and I moved to Grass Valley in 2005. The Owl was recommended by Dan Baldwin, our Realtor. We have never been disappointed there. Whether you have a party of two, or ten, the service is always great, and the food is fantastic. The halibut is beyond description and the steaks and ribs are always tender, and cooked to perfection. A must-have appetizer is their Billy Blue Bread, and don't make the mistake of ordering a half-order!    [07 Mar 2007 20:42:09]

One of my favorites
Have been to The Owl a number of times in the past two years. It is a must-visit when I'm in Grass Valley. The restaurant is in a historical old building and is charming and romantic. The food is mouthwatering, and the place always seems to be bustling with happy patrons. Lots of parking in the back. If you like blue cheese, billie bread is a great appetizer. My favorite dish is the Halibut with Thai Basil Sauce--worth the trip from Chico by itself.    [30 Jun 2007 20:40:26]

Our Favorite Restaurant
My husband and I have been going to the Owl for seven plus years now for celebrations or just a night out together. The service has always been friendly and fast. My husband loves the filet mignon with blue cheese sauce, and I love the prime rib. Also, if you are a clam chowder lover, the Owl has the best chowder that I have had anywhere.    [18 Jul 2007 16:37:25]
