Awful
Went to lunch with Linda and Nathan to Britta's in the University Theater shopping center. The waitress was monosyllabic & faintly hostile, there were spots on the tablecloth, the food took forever to arrive (we were away from the office almost 2 hours) and the cost for what was delivered was pretty extraordinary. I don't know how this place got rated "excellent" in Zagat as they claim.    [04 May 2004 19:40:56]

Virtually protein-free goat cheese salad
If you're on a low carb plan -- or just are aware of the fact that protein is needed to live -- avoid the Asparagus/Goat Cheese Salad.

The crumbles of cheese cannot possibly total more than one-half ounce, max.

At $9.50, this luncheon salad, though beautifully presented, should be classified as a side salad -- meaning that the cheese should NOT be listed as a major ingredient.    [08 Jul 2004 18:32:15]

Excellent food, service has been inconsistent
We have eaten here several times... the bread is fresh and homemade. The soups and salad are excellent... the entrees always inventive and we love the homemade ice cream. The downside has always been the inconsistent service. Be prepared to linger, don't go and try and meet a movie or show time. Excellent wine list, fair prices, great wine by the glass program.    [14 Sep 2005 14:13:10]

Go somewhere else
Service is slow and the chef apparently uneducated - we ordered spaghetti carbonara and received a plate of spaghetti with scrambled eggs!! Culinary nightmare. When we asked (we thought it might have been a cook's mistake) we were told (by Britta herself) this is what carbonara is.....Read a cookbook! It was BAD. Scallop salad had 2 scallops....It was not a meal as stated on the menu and was nearly $12. This "lunch" disaster was also 2 hours long and we were the only people in the place....Issues with help?

It's a great place!
Don't expect to go in and be out in 20 minutes. The great service and great food makes it, undoubtedly, one of the best places to eat in Irvine. It takes just as long to get your food everywhere else. You basically watch them make it from scratch right in front of you. Portions are a little out of control, but boy do you get your bang for the buck! My husband and I frequent the cafe at least once a week. Staff is extremely helpful but when you can very clearly see every seat is full, it can take a bit longer to get your server's attention. OVERALL I LOVE THE PLACE!    [17 Jan 2007 22:07:59]

Home away from home
Britta's is my favorite place to eat. I am a typically a single diner and this place is so warm and comforting it's as if I am dining at my own home. The staff always makes me feel very welcome. I have even gotten to know Britta. She always takes the time to say "hello," which makes me feel important as a diner. The food is amazing as well!    [12 Feb 2008 13:13:04]

My favorite restaurant
Being born and raised in Orange County there has been only a small handful of restaurant I have been impressed by and this is one of them!!! Not only do they deal with local farmers and fisherman everything is made fresh and you can tell nothing has comes out of a can. Their patios are extremely comfortable and have a wonderful ambiance especially in the evening with candles through out all the planters.    [12 Feb 2008 17:35:15]
