Finest Steaks Anywhere
McNally's offeres the best quality for a great price. The McNally steak special is one of the most flavorful steaks you will ever taste. I have been going to Johnny's place for over 20 years, and his quality and quantity have never changed. The lodge is nestled on the Kern river and the walks after dinner are the best in the world. If you are daring you can try the Logger a 44oz prime cut steak. Whoooa Nelly    [08 Jan 2004 01:17:18]

MMM MMM Tender
When you ask anyone in the Lake Isabella area where the best place to eat is, they say, "McNally's." It's a 15 mile/30 min. road trip up the Kern river from Kernville to a pleasant lodge-style building. They don't take reservations for parties under 6. Make sure you are on time and are hungry when you get there.
Cocktails are served promptly at 4:30 either inside in the bar area or outside on the riverside deck. They start seating for dinner promptly at 5:00. The waitstaff is professional and very courteous. The hand-on owners, John and Becky, are also present and are very pleasant. The steaks are cooked as desired and are so good they practically melt in your mouth. The place is so good that most customers there travel great distances on a frequent basis to get their "fix."    [10 Jun 2004 09:20:21]

My favorite place
I first discovered McNally's in 1975, and have been enjoying dinner there every single year since 1980. If I stay in the area for 5 days I feast upon a McNally's steak every evening.

The best steak I've ever had, anywhere, anytime. The filet mignon is fabulous; the 44-oz Logger (a Porterhouse) is equally superb.    [19 Jun 2006 15:01:26]

simply the best
The new owners, Terry and Carol, are keeping the same tradition of quality that this steak house has had over the years! Ate there last week, and it might even be a little better than it used to be, believe it or not!    [12 Jul 2006 19:22:59]

Mc Nallys Turned BAD !!!
On 9/23/2006 I went to McNallys for dinner.....well this was the absolute worst dinner I have had in a long time. The service was trying to excuse the cook, but let me tell you all the other tables were have steaks taken back to re-cook. I asked for medium well....I got moooooooooooo RED one of the rarest steaks ever, we had to send back 3 steaks, and they still came back too rare. My wife's rice was still crunchy ??? what the heck. I live in Ridgecrest so for us it was a 2 hr drive. I'm 100% sure I will never return. Too bad, it used to be a place you would plan to go.    [25 Sep 2006 21:50:51]

Still the Same
Terry and Carol picked up right where John and Becky left off. Folks, it doesn't get any better than this. The place to be with a mountain air appetite. Best bar staff.    [28 Sep 2006 11:04:29]

As Good As it Gets
I have camped on the Kern River at Fairview many times and eaten at Johnny Mac's after a day of catching rainbows. The steaks are about as good as it gets. Between the beautiful southern Sierra vista and the fine food, drink and service, you cannot go wrong.    [11 Nov 2006 13:50:37]

The Best Anywhere
My wife and I have eaten at McNally's on two trips to the Kern River. The second time was our anniversary. We rented a cabin and ate at the restaurant at night and enjoyed the best damned steaks that you will find anywhere. They also serve a relish tray before your meal that boasts the best bread and butter pickles that you will ever taste. I dare you to prove them wrong.    [13 Mar 2007 21:28:55]

WOW!!!!
Let me tell ya, I just got back from Johnny McNallys on the Kern river, it was my first time. I have heard about it for the last couple of years from some friends, and let me say it lived up to the hype!!!!!!!!!! All I had heard about was how great the steaks were, and they were. I had a porterhouse the first night ( not the logger ) and it was incredible, the second night I had the filet with shrimp and again it was impeccable! The unsung hero of the dinner is there blue cheese salad dressing which had plenty of fresh crumbled blue cheese (thanks Mercedes) My hats off to the owners Creig, Terry, & Carol
p.s. the butter pickles are insane    [02 Jul 2007 15:58:59]

Our Favorite Place to Stay and Eat as a Couple
It's a great place to stay and to eat. I fell in love with this place when my boyfriend first took me. It was our first camping trip together. We have the choice of eating out or eating at there hamburger house, either way the food is great. YUMMY!    [11 Aug 2007 23:16:21]
