Laguna Beach
Description
Located steps from the beach, hush is an alluring dining destination where stained teak and soft leather fill the space, giving the 125-seat restaurant and 45-seat bar a sleek, sophisticated and comfortable feel. Romantics will enjoy an intimate booth for eight with a view into the glass-ensconced wine cellar while others can bask in Pacific breezes and enjoy the warmth of teh outdoor patio's fireplace. The star at hush is by far an unparalleled wine cellar fuiled by Chuck Rock's private colection. With over 1,000 selections and a coveted 10,000-bottle cellar, there is a wine for everyone here.

Don't bother- good place for drinks but not dining I have been there twice-to give this restaurant a fair chance. We live in Laguna and frequent all local restaurants. Hush has a modern minimalist look-which is fun at the bar, but the minimalism unfortunately translates into their meals as well. For example, you pay $30 for scallops, and you get 3 scallops on a little pile of potatoes. With these little meals and couple of bottles of cheap wine we ended paying $90 a head!!!
If you go there on weekends, they are never ready with at your reservation time. You have to wait around for 20-30 minutes.
The worst experience of all last weekend 1/15/05: We celebrated my birthday and drank quite a bit at the bar. Then our group moved to the dining area to have dinner. My husband ordered a bottle of wine for $40, told the waiter the name of the wine and the number! The waiter came back with a bottle- of a wine that was listed directly below the wine we ordered - for $105 a bottle. Luckily my husband noticed it before we got served but we had every reason to believe that the "mix up" was intentional. WATCH YOUR ORDERS AND YOUR POCKETS!!!! [20 Jan 2005 22:28:42]

Come prepared to wait in the bar We've been to Hush only once and had mixed feelings about it. Although we had a reservation, we had to wait in the bar for nearly 40 minutes for our table. The bar is contemporary and fun, but we were both very hungry when we arrived and ready to be seated. When I started seeing people who arrived well after us being seated, I asked the hostess and was greeted with a bit of confusion and apathy. Nevertheless, we eventually got seated at our table and enjoyed our meal. The best thing we ordered (and something we still talk about over a year later) was an heirloom tomato salad that was fantastic -- the many different tomatoes were all ripe and fresh and had amazing flavor. Our entrees (filet mignon and pork chop) were tasty and satisfactory, though not out of the ordinary. My wife (who at the time was still my girlfriend) was frustrated by what she thought was inattentive service; I liked it that we weren't pestered by the wait staff all evening long, as I was definitely more interested in her than in my meal. We'll try Hush again when we have more time to kill, particularly if they still have the heirloom tomato salad on the menu. [18 Jul 2005 19:06:36]

A great over all experience The wine list is one of the best I've ever seen. Very affordable. Our young CA Cab was was decanted and served at cellar temp. The Mac and Cheese w/Lobster is to die for. [27 Feb 2006 18:34:28]
