Great BBQ
This is a wonderful BBQ place for the San Fernando Valley. The ambiance is simple, but the food is very good. In a valley that lacks good BBQ, This is a welcome change.

I had the "Combearnation" lunch wich is a BBQ sandwich (beef, pork or turkey)on garlic toast and one beef rib. It's served with a choice of baked beans or coleslaw and cost $7.85 July 2003    [17 Jul 2003 11:22:44]

Bear Pit is Only in My Dreams Right Now
Ever since the original Love's Woood Pit BBQ closed it door on Ventura Blvd in Encino, which was way back in the early '80's, excellent BBQ restaurants have been hard to find in Los Angeles.
Happily, the Bear Pit was a great BBQ venue to slide over to. I recommend their BBQ Roast Beef Sandwich on Toasted Garlic Bread with thier sweet BBQ Sauce. Their cole slaw and baked beans come with, and compliment his basic order. I've been residing overseas, and it is impossible to do any Bear Pit dining over here.    [26 Aug 2003 09:00:10]

OH, SOOOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!!!!
We have been going to the Bear Pit for over 30 years. Not much has changed in that time, still has saw dust on the floor and some tables are like picnic tables. As you drive up and park your car in the large lot (that is almost always full at any time of the day), you can smell the smoke and BBQ. The best item on the menu is the BBQ beef sandwich on garlic bread. A wonderful mess, that luckily comes with finger wipes and lots of napkins. My husband always reads the menu discusses the virtues of all the items on the menu, then gets the smokey links. We now live about 30 miles from Mission Hils, but we still make a point of going several times a year.    [17 May 2004 18:51:17]

Best Barbecue in Town
I have been eating at Bear Pit since I was a child in 1963. My favorite dish is the garlic bread with BBQ beef, with a side of pickles and their original sauce. It is good for catering events.    [11 May 2008 19:05:45]
