Paul's for Breakfast Paul's serves a very good breakfast. There is very little wait to be seated, and you are helped promptly. All aspects of the brakfast are very good. [02 Sep 2004 21:51:57]

Cheap quality and cheap service, served to you on a plastic plate. My father used to say that is was very easy to see how good a new restaurant was going to be, by simply taking a look at what the food was being served on/with. To my surprise Paul's Pantry, which was packed full of people, had simple plastic plates and the worst, worn out utensils I had ever seen. This should have been my first clue to get out, but as I had been surprised before, my wife and I took a seat.
The menu for breakfast showed promise. All of the "diner type" foods one comes to expect were present and I settled in to the booth awaiting my sausage and gravy covered bisquits and hard-poached eggs. My wife, always one to try a new dish, ordered the eggs Benedict. Now, I ask you, how can a place that serves only breakfast and lunch not be able to poach an egg correctly? When the dishes arrived, both of our egg orders came out raw and were sent back. Five minutes later, the second round arrived and like the first, were still uncooked with the yolks totally runny. As these were once again sent back, the manager, obviously upset, came to apologize and promised us what we had ordered. Needless to say, we never got what we expected. After another ten minutes, we were told that the cooks were having a problem "getting the water to boil so that the eggs could be fully cooked." My wife and I proceeded to eat our hashed browns and asked for the check. What we received shocked us even more then the lack of cooking knowledge the staff possessed. We had been charged six dollars for two small glasses of concentrated orange juice, four dollars for one cup of coffee and our breakfasts, which included no eggs and were eaten cold, were charged to us at their full price. When we asked the manager to discount our meal, we were told that she did not have the authority to do so because the "actual manager was on his lunch hour at the Chili's next door." With that, we paid a total of $32.00 w/o tip and left, totally unsatisfied and still hungry. This place was entered into with so much expectation, and as we left, all of it had been washed away...like the runny yolks. [05 Sep 2004 17:12:53]
