Wharfside Was a HUGE Disappointment My companion and I were very disappointed with our meal at Wharfside on Monday Dec. 15th, 2003 I believe it was. I ordered 1/2 crab (it may have been a part of meal with scallops and shrimp but it wasn't that good, so I didn't recall the exact name of the meal. What I do remember is that one of the crab legs was missing and the socket for the leg was blackened. The crab wasn't anywhere near as tasty as the crab that I enjoyed at two other restaurants during our recent stay in San Francisco (Neptune's Planet and especially the Crab House were wonderful in every aspect). Service was slow (yet Wharfside wasn't busy). My two Tanquerey and tonics were weak (or the tonic was cheap or stale, something was clearly wrong). I let the server know my previous cocktail was weak and when she brought our drinks, she set my companion's drink down, asked my companion if her drink was fine and then set my drink down and quickly walked away before I could taste my drink (strange) which was still not suitable (this is my cocktail of choice when dining and yes I know what it should taste like). And there was a big delay between when my companion finished her first cocktail and when the server returned to check on us (I never bothered to finish my first hoping the second would be better). Although we didn't expect the "spaghetti and meatballs" to be out of this world, my companion isn't into seafood and thus ordered it. She was disappointed and couldn't eat the meatballs. Our appetizer and desserts were fine, but nothing special. All in all, a VERY poor experience both in food quality and service. While walking through the restaurant to be seated, we also noticed the restaurant had a stronger fish aroma than we've been accustomed to at other fine seafood restaurants. We have pretty laid back personalities and rarely complain, but this experience was like throwing $100+ out the window. We decided not to complain in person because it was a special occasion and we didn't want any more aggravation. I, however, tried sending my comments via e-mail to Wharfside with the e-mail address found for them throughout the Web and it bounced. I had grabbed their business card on the way out and knew the name of their general manager. Then I tried to fax my comments to his attention and their fax machine wouldn't pick up. So I sent the manager a regular snail mail letter and he never bothered to respond. I was really hoping my experience was a rarity and was hoping the manager would clear up my concerns, but it seems like they don't have much regard for the service they offer. [14 Jan 2004 16:03:12]
