Worst food in town! Dry, grey steak, worst service by waitresses who should be receptionists, at least they get paid to ignore you. Once the wine is served, good bye service. No eating utensils, no show til the check arrives. The steaks were dry and lifeless, the Green Goddess dressing is bright green mayo! Overpriced and worst place to go. [28 Aug 2002 00:17:10]

Good steaks and salmon You go here because it's a neighborhood place with locals and bartenders who pour great drinks, not for the decor. The steaks are always good and the salmon is always perfect. But they don't have a lot of "light" fare, except for terrific salmon Caesar salads. More steak fries and sauteed mushrooms and stuffed potato kind of appetizers. So... don't expect gourmet, just really good meat and fish cooked traditionally as decent prices. [09 Feb 2003 20:03:39]

The food was superb - tasty and well prepared. For the quality, the prices were very fair. The staff was helpful and friendly. The ambiance was pleasant and comfortable. Overall, a great place! [06 Feb 2004 15:34:27]

NEGATIVE POSTER WAS RIGHT! I live accross the street from this place and have been promising myself since I moved in here that I'd get a steak there. Well, tonight I took myself to celebrate a pending promotion...what a huge mistake. I think the whole experience jinxed my budding writing career! The meat was grey and tasteless...except for all the blood running out of it. I sent it back TWICE and it always came back looking just-boiled. The scary old lady with the big wig came and practically yelled at me- that was damn scary and embarassing.
What a horrendous experience! I will NEVER go back. [19 Mar 2004 22:56:15]

Eric, from across the street!
Terrible Service Overshadows Decent Food Possibly a weekday would be a better experience, but don't risk it. In my humble opinion, anyone thinking of dining at this close-quartered, loud establishment on a Friday evening, be prepared for the worst service of your life. I strongly believe that in the amount of time it took from when the order was placed to the time the food arrived, I could have made a roundtrip to Gelsons for prime steaks and sides, stopped at Vendome for a better wine than offered on their list, and prepared the meal. Grilling steak is not a science. Why it took an hour to prepare is beyond me. When pressed for an explanation, the waitress responded in a diplomatic manner, "it's not my fault." Of course. And it's not my fault that you were not tipped. Anyone considering the Steak Joynt - do yourself and your guest(s) a favor. Save this place as a last resort selection. [05 Apr 2004 19:12:45]

great steaks, great value We've eaten there on our past several visits to LA and have been impressed each time. Having been to steakshouses all over the US, we're always made to feel at home in the garden-like atmosphere with a pleasant, congenial staff. The food though is the real winner. A diverse appetizer selection, including sherry-sauteed mushrooms and a double roquefort (!) chopped salad, is followed by a wide selection of Angus certified steaks (including the vastly underrated, highly flavorful and my favorite, the ribeye cut). Salmon, chicken and pork round out the main courses (which all come with a choice of 2 sides). Value friendly wine list, $5 corkage and full bar should satisfy any thirst. [27 Nov 2004 18:09:57]

Disastrous Christmas Eve Where should I start??? They screwed up our reservation (I should have taken that as a sign of things to come). When they finally decided they were willing to seat us, it took about 20 minutes before they took our order.
The waitress was having a bad night, fighting with the owner, in front of the entire bar area.
We had to ask twice for our order of garlic bread (which finally was thrown on our table at about the 60 minute point of our experience).
We were sitting in the bar area and never got offered a second round of drinks.
The French onion soup was fair at best, not a bad flavor, but they used shredded cheese on top, so you didn't get the effect of a real bowl of French onion soup.
Three of the five entrees arrived as ordered (about 80 minutes into the night), entree #4 was delivered with the incorrect side dish, which was easily rectified.... However, entree number five was a BIG PROBLEM. The steak was ordered "medium" it arrived just the other side of raw. I sent it back; they returned it about 10 minutes later charred on the outside and slightly less raw on the inside. Honestly at they point I was grossed out. The owner was called over and upon the request to please just take it back and remove it from the bill she replied "I won't do that - if it's a problem I can rectify I won't refund money", I explained that I had already given them one opportunity to fix the problem, but she refused. I was forced to pay for a steak meal that I didn't eat one bite of. I took it home so I could actually cook it; however, the side dishes I had ordered can't be re-heated so it was a giant waste of money.
How's that for a way to attract new customers? [25 Dec 2004 23:40:31]

Owners nose out of Joynt??? We are nice people who have never had a problem in a restaurant in our life. We were mistreated, served horrible food, had lousy service and verbally attacked and abused by this disgusting woman owner who behaved like a lunatic. She needs to be out of the restaurant business. The Worst This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had -- on Christmas Eve yet. The owner/hostess was rude from the minute we walked in the door (which should have been a clue). A booth was requested when the reservations were made, but she informed us that no booths were available, although we could plainly see two empty booths, which booths remained empty until we left the restaurant (around 9:30 p.m.) in addition to another booth becoming available, which also remained empty. Moving along, although we had 7:30 reservations, they were out of prime rib, but this was not noted nor was it mentioned until we had spent a half hour waiting for our orders to be taken, at which time we were so informed. The steaks we did order were inedible due to the fact that they were tasteless and dry. When the owner/hostess came to the table to ask about the meal, I told her that my steak was inedible and requested another dish since I had not eaten my steak. She started berating all of us, claiming that no other customer had complained about that particular dish and further stating that we must not eat out much. In addition, no one ever came and asked whether I would like another drink, which I would have liked. The restaurant was neither busy nor crowded, so there was no reason for rudeness, inattentivness to our needs, or anything else out of the ordinary. What an awful experience! [27 Dec 2005 13:52:40]
