Great Food, Not-so-great Service We love the food and have eaten there many times but no more. The last time we were there, we waited 20 minutes for our table, then after sitting at our table for 45 minutes without being able to place an order for a beverage, much less our dinner, we left. This wasn't the only time we endured a ridiculously long wait.
The food is great. Eat there if it isn't crowded. The food is worth a reasonable wait. [22 Apr 2003 01:02:40]

Excellent Food, and Enjoyable Staff I've been going to Kurando with my family for about 10 years and we absolutely love the place. The food is so delicious, they have everything, even good food for people who don't care for sushi. And the staff are so much fun. They are very nice and they love to make jokes, they obviously really like their jobs. Make sure you go early though because it is a small place so it does fill up quickly, you can always make reservations though. [16 Jul 2003 19:09:57]

I have eaten sushi all over San Diego county and this is one of the best sushi restaurants around. The fish is absolutely fresh and beautifully prepared. If you haven't tried sitting at a Sushi bar - give it a go. You don't have to have sushi, but can also order off the regular menu. It's entertaining to watch the chefs do their thing. Also, the sushi bar promotes social interaction and it's always fun to find out what the person next to you is ordering. Contrary to some of the other reviews, I didn't find the service objectionable. I've had to wait from time to time, but the service staff is so accommodating that one can always get a drink or an appetizer while waiting. I give this restaurant 5 stars. [30 Jul 2003 12:01:46]

Best Japanese Food in San Diego County My family and I have been going to Kurando for well over 10 years now. I have to say that this place has been consistent with food, staff, and ambiance. We would like to keep the place a secret, but because of word of mouth it is quite popular now. This is definitely the best Japanese food and sushi around. 5 stars! [23 Nov 2004 15:13:23]

Best Sushi Value in San Diego I'm a long-time customer of Kurando's. Their sushi is always fresh and, compared to other sushi restaurants in San Diego County, their prices are very reasonable.
Don't know what you want...get the "Shokado Bento!" [08 Oct 2005 12:52:42]

You Haven't Had Japanese Food Until You've Had Kurondo I have been going to Kurondo for almost 15 years now. I have never in my life had any bad service or bad sushi from this restaurant! This fish is so fresh that they literally melt in your mouth. (A bit of exaggeration, I know, but trust me - it's good.)
Don't like sushi or sashimi? Well, try the udon (Japanese soup with noodles). It's the most delicious udon I have had and nothing so far can compare to it. The tempura dishes are superb and the dressing for the salad is light.
Although the prices have increased quite a bit, it's well worth it. Yes, there is a wait now but call for reservations. It usually helps! Best time to go is Wednesday night.
I've tried sushi/sashimi all over San Diego, and I always revert back to Kurondo. [27 Feb 2007 16:27:21]

Not So Great I have been going to Kurando for over 11 years. Seems the service gets worse every time we go. 17 dollars for a small portion of chicken teriyaki, salad from a bag, and little bowl of rice is just not worth it anymore. [18 Mar 2007 00:04:19]
