Great Food w/ an Intimate Environment This is a great little restaurant on California Avenue. Nested in among several other great small restaurants and shops.
After an evening of wine tasting at Vin Vino Wine (VVW) across the street, this is a great place to relax and enjoy some great food. [17 May 2000 13:55:34]

Service was not very good We visited 12.15.2004 @ 7:30pm. Party of five. Server was very busy socialising with people on table next to us. We had to tell busboy to get us coffee soon. It took a long time for coffee. [01 Jan 2005 21:00:31]

Avoid This Place -- RUDE STAFF, So-So Food, Expensive VERY RUDE STAFF -- FOOD IS MEDIOCRE -- AVOID THIS PLACE. We were just at Bistro Elan for Valentine's Day (Feb 14, 2008). It was the most disappointing night. The food was absolutely awful. There was a fixed menu and appetizer (crab covered with radishes, so soggy I couldn't taste anything). The lamb was tasteless. My husband's food tasted like the active ingredient was plastic. I asked the waiter to bring my red wine in a red wine glass and he first ignored me and then he told me that he doesn't want to do that because other clients have complained about not getting enough wine in such a large glass. When I told my waiter I was unhappy with the food he smirked and in a few minutes the rest of the waiters started glaring at us as though we did something wrong. He wouldn't even bring us our dessert (which was part of the fixed menu). I had to ask him for it. I am embarrassed for the owner. I spoke with the owner. He was nice, but he needs to get a whole group of new workers who believe that they are supposed to serve clients and not vice-versa. I would avoid this place like plague. [15 Feb 2008 00:53:26]
