Great Italian food including pizza, excellent wine This is a great cafe.
Lavish but not ostentatious decor, attentive but not obsequious service, great food, a great selection of good but not bank-breaking wines. The markup on the Coppola wines is low, the prices on the good ones are just higher than retail (as opposed to the usual 60-200% markup).
I know there is a major recession going on, but I'm still surprised how easy it is to get a table. The similar places I think of in the Universtity Ave. area are Evvia and La Amie Donia, which are much pricier and pricier, respectively. The advantage of Niebaum Coppola is that it is a cafe, nice but not as big a deal as the others. [18 May 2003 17:04:12]
