The food was ok...
The food was ok, except the sauce for the fresh lumpia. It was too sweet and the pancit palabok noodle was not drained very well so the sauce was a bit watery for my taste. Plus, the serving for the palabok was small. The soda was also small; I wish they would give the clients the choice (small, medium and large).

But the chocolate cake is very good, better than the chocolate cake in the Philippines. The same with the sans rival. The servers are very courteous and accommodating and the place is clean as well. I just wish they would add to their menu pancit malabon. That will make me very happy!!    [25 Oct 2003 01:11:16]

Out of my element
Having high (perhaps I set myself up in this regard) expectations after seeing the lines almost constantly barrage the Pleasant Hill outlet, I was set for a fall. Now, I enjoy foods from all over the world, but nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to experience. For one thing, I did not expect garbanzo and other 'beans' in my dessert, nor crushed ice that diluted the flavor of the ice cream (which was good). The "egg noodle" plate was flavorful, but very lacking in substance.

All I can say is that I wouldn't make a very good Filipino, as I could never subsist on what they serve at Goldilocks. The pastries are also surprisingly lacking in the "satisfying" category, and leave one wondering "is that what I ordered? They don't taste as they look. After all, aren't they known for their pastries/cakes? Obviously Goldilocks serves a very narrow group with very, well, unusual tastes. I'll eat Vietnamese, Thai and even sushi anytime over Filipino food; it's just TOO strange to go back.

My overall rating for food is not because it was enjoyable, but I must admit that it must have an appeal to someone even though I didn't enjoy it. That said, the quality of the food seemed to be OK.    [28 Dec 2003 17:56:57]

Best Goldilocks I've gone
I was very excited when they opened this branch. All the food that I ordered so far meet or exceeds my expectations. Now am going there twice or three times a week. Knowing the wide variety of dishes Filipinos have, I stick mostly to my own choice of foods. There are some popular dishes in the Northern Philippines that are too gross for me. If I'm expanding my choice, I usually have it to go.

The palabok, chicken/pork bbq meal (soup is delicious), papaya pickles, siopao, and longaniza are my favorite picks.

I'm tempted to try the local beverages, but am not at that point yet.

It's very neat compared to the dirty branch in Vallejo. And the service crew are great, if only the cash register people keep their personal conversation short.

Oh, they could use a line guide so people wont have to guess where they line up when ordering.    [04 Apr 2004 11:34:49]

Over-Rated
I don't know what is so special about Goldilocks. I guess if I wasn't too lazy to cook it at home, I will go there but I have decided it isn't worth it. The Palabok needs more flavor; the Fresh Lumpia is too sweet; the Kari-Kari is bland. Food is over-priced and so are the desserts. The Ensamadas aren't fresh. I think I bought two-day old Ensamadas!    [22 Jul 2005 14:30:12]

Not a good representation of Filipino food!!
If you're looking for good Filipino food, Goldilocks isn't the place. It's a shame too, as it's the only Filipino restaurant in Concord. The food is overpriced and mediocre. The pastries use imitation flavoring. As a Filipino, I warn my friends and coworkers that Goldilocks does not represent quality Filipino food.    [06 Nov 2006 21:49:50]
