Excellent! The Blue Agave Club is a can't miss. Pleasanton's Main Street adds the perfect backdrop for such a wonderful restaurant. The people are great, the food is to die for, and the decor adds that special touch. I would recommend Blue Agave to anyone that likes good time and a wonderful meal. Be sure to try one of their world famous margaritas or sip on their many tequilas. [26 Sep 2001 10:07:28]

Very Cool Destination The ambiance, romantic outdoor patio, impressive service and table-side serenades make this a stand-out. The food is good, but darn expensive. If I was going for the ultimate Mex cuisine I wouldn't select the Blue Agave, but if I wanted a destination that really impresses and gets remembered - it's the place. [15 Mar 2004 14:07:48]

Great Margarita menu, but not much else.... The Blue Agave has an extensive and impressive margarita menu, but the rest of the food is only so so. I'd heard so much about this place and how great the food was so I was excited about trying it. When the food finally came, it wasn't even very good especially considering what we'd paid for it. The outside dining atmosphere was nice and on a warm summer night it's always great to sit outside and enjoy downtown Pleasanton. I probably wouldn't go back though. [22 Dec 2005 15:06:00]

Nice place, nice food, nice buzz... I had no idea Pleasanton actually had some charm, then I hit the old town area and this restaurant. The place was packed, and with no reservations we thought the wait might be long. We got a table before I could down my first magarita (tasty!). The service was frantic, but good and the food choices were balanced - the choice was tough. I settled on a shrimp dish which I loved. My wife was less impressed with her chicken mole. Overall a very nice experience - not that expensive, and good quality food. We will return. [15 Apr 2006 22:35:10]

Overpriced, unpderspiced My wife and I went to the Blue Agave Club on the strength of a recommendation from a local magazine; I want the author to pay me back for my meal. My wife's combination -- skirt steak, a chile relleno and enchilada was a huge disappointment. She said the steak was tough and stringy, and the chile relleno was one of the worst she'd ever had; even Chevy's was better.
My pork tenderloin (suggested by the waiter), wrapped around spinach and pine nuts, was completely bland, save for the charred meat. In addition, the pork was grainy and mushy. The chef should have taken the cilantro garnish and minced it, then mixed with the spinach to offset the savory meat. One side dish, made of half over-carmelized half-undercooked onion strips, was disgusting. The other side dish, a potatoes au gratin, was nearly tasteless too, except for the slight tang of the cheese.
At 23.50 per entree, I expected richly, subtly flavored dishes. Instead, the best flavors came from the three varieties of salsa that came with the complimentary chips.
In addition, the setting was uncomfortable. We came at twilight, and one of the heat lamps near our table apparently ran out of fuel midway through our appetizer, since the waiter couldn't relight it. So, my left side was slightly chilled all night. To cap off the night, some redneck with subwoofers in his truck blasted his stereo from across the street for the last 10 minutes of the meal, and none of the restaurant staff either intervened or called the police.
Avoid this restaurant until it changes chefs and management. [10 Sep 2006 20:04:52]
