If You Like It Authentic and Creative, It's the Best I've been fortunate to have traveled all over the world. One of my pet projects is to eat at every quality sushi restaurant I can find as time allows. I've always considered the smaller family operated sushi restaurants in Japan to be, obviously, the most authentic in taste, quality and service.
Sozo Sushi has that same athmosphere and quality. Not pretentious, not dismissible, but truely as authentic as a sushi restaurant can get in the US. The owners and staff truely appreciate every single customer that comes in the door. And the quality of the itms prepared can match plate for plate, item for item as the best in the world...and without the inflated prices.
My maki favorites are their Grilled Whole Ika (ask for it), Cabo Roll, Vera Cruz Roll, the not-too-hotter than Hell (and very satisfying) Firehouse Roll, and the very interesting Maui Wowie Roll.
The Poki Hawaiian Salad is one of the more imanagable slads I have ever eaten at a sushi restaurant. Great refreshing flavor!
For the bent-on-bento crowd, try their Bento Special with their incredible chicken terriaki.
If you like the noodle snack thing, their Udon is the best in the area.
The service has always been first rate for a sushi restaurant, and the prices are well within reach on the commoner, a welcome change in this world of higher priced sushi disappointments. The decor is pleasant and not over kitchy - a fun and lively spot to meet friends or casual business guests. Not a loud place one you get by the staff greetings by all when you walk in the front door.
Although I am based 400 miles away, Sozo Sushi is a consistent hit as a destination restaurant in my book! [20 Dec 2005 00:39:14]
