Very romantic anniversary!
I had always seen the Copacabana Restaurant up on the hill off of the 10 freeway. It looked nice so I stopped off 1 day from work.

At first, when you arrive you walk through a walkway surrounded by cascading waterfalls and fish ponds. Then they have giant cage with real tropical birds.

The style and feel of the place is very modern, including granite floors and a lot of glass, yet includes a bunch of Cuban/Spanish themed paintings and congas throughout.

I immediately made a reservation for my and my wife's 7th wedding anniversary.

We came in for dinner a week later. My wife ordered a "Paella" and I ordered the "Cuban Fried Rice." They were both delicious and we even took the rest home.

I recommend the place.    [11 May 2004 19:46:35]

Worst Mother's Day Ever!!
I guess it's true that you can't judge a book by its cover. Seeing the Copacabana restaurant overlooking Pomona, with cute Christmas lights decorating the surrounding palm trees, you would not have expected the restaurant to be SO bad, but it really was.

We went there for the Mother's Day buffet and almost got seated at a table that was located right outside of the kitchen, and on top of that, it had absolutely NO view. Now why would I go to a restaurant on top of a hill to sit and stare at a wall?

The floors were greasy, the food was bad, and we had to ask for things not once, not twice, but three times! All in all, I would never in a million years go back or recommend anyone go there for special occasions. If anything, go there just for the salsa dancing on Thursdays and Fridays. That way, you're not subjected to the poor food or service.    [12 May 2004 12:55:54]

The Most Delicious Cuban Food
Wow! What a difference new management makes! After not having eaten there for quite some time, it was a pleasant surprise to find that the service had improved to more than acceptable levels. I was ready to brave the downside of poor service because the food is so good -- but, not necessary. The hostess was stylish and well-dressed, the wait staff clean and professional, the tables well-situated, and the piano a nice accompaniment to the most delicious Cuban food available at any L.A. area restaurant. To add to the memorable experience, the beautifully lit freeways make for a glamorous view (although I'm sure the drivers trapped in gridlock see it a different way!). See this restaurant in a different and better way than ever. Get dressed up, bring your appetite and be prepared to have an excellent meal with Cuban flair. The martinis are as good as the mojitos, too!    [12 May 2004 18:08:18]

Simply the Best
I've gone to Coppacabana multiple times and each time the service has been better than the last. I'd recommend it to anyone who'd like to spend a romantic evening with their significant other. It's just a lovely place with great food.    [24 Jan 2005 17:31:56]

A Night to Remember!!!
My fiancĂ© proposed to me at this wonderful place. The staff was most accommodating to his requests to make this a memorable evening. The food was spectacular and the service friendly and punctual. The manager even came out and congratulated us personally. We were so impressed with the place that we have decided to have our wedding and reception there as well. The Events Coordinator has been just as accommodating and helpful as was the staff on that memorable proposal night. Thank you for making my dream proposal come true.    [21 Mar 2006 17:40:04]

I Really Recommend It!
I had gone there a few times when it was the Copacabana and I always liked it. Then when it became the Coco Palm, I still went. Every time that I have gone, I have always gotten great service. I love the atmosphere, so tropical and relaxing. I enjoy it every time. My friends and I ALWAYS have a great time, and the bartenders have been really nice. ;o)    [07 Aug 2006 13:27:13]

Father's Day Brunch
Father's Day brunch 2007 was the our first time there but we'll certainly be back! We'd heard about and seen this hilltop restaurant for years, but hardly remembered it for such an important occasion. My girlfriend goes there all the time to salsa dance on the weekends, and raves about the live music. My husband's family came to visit, so I wanted to treat them to a traditional Latin Sunday brunch, which can be hard to come by, and unless you can handle the heaviness of Mexican food, you'd better have a pack of Tums handy. The food here is incredible and a lot easier to swallow. Make sure you get there hungry. Get there early if you want a table by the window; order up a glass of sparkling mimosa (sparkling wine + o.j.) and pile on the food. Crab legs, oysters, garlicky chicken and the biggest paella I've ever seen, um, um and ummmm!    [23 Jun 2007 12:55:18]

Don't Waste Your Time or Your Money!
The other reviewer was right when he said looks can be deceiving! You'd think from the grand sign and lights you see from the freeway that something good awaits you on top of that hill, but I'm warning you that you shouldn't waste a good night out to eat here! I've had better Cuban food at Sugarcanes, which is a fast-food place in the Spectrum in Chino Hills! And for a lot less, for that matter, go to Felix's over at the Orange Circle in Orance County! The food is better, the staff is nicer, the atmosphere is way better, and it's about 1/3 of the price. First off, the parking is a scam . . . 99% of the parking lot is reserved for the valet business, and employees take up all the self-parking, so unless you want to walk up a hill to the restaurant, you are forced to pay $5, which they demand up front to eat here! Bad first impression. Not to mention the valets have the personality and customer service skills of a doorknob. We immediately realized this place was not the upscale restaurant we thought it was. The decor is straight out of the eighties . . . they look like they just took over another restaurant, and the only hints of a Cuban theme are some cheap framed posters they bought at the Pomona swap meet. The wait staff is extremely mediocre, and if you are used to good service, such as when dining at Fleming's or Ruth Chris, don't expect it here! Our tablecloths were stained, the wait staff was extremely mediocre and really barely talked to us, but it may be because they didn't speak English. No specials or dishes were explained or recommended. The house salad was nasty, and the lobster bisque tasted like it came out of a can. I had the orange chicken, and it was dry and just really whatever. My husband had the Argentine grill, and it was swimming in grease! We left barely touching anything we ordered and were never asked once how our food was or why we didn't eat any of it. The people who gave this place a good review either own the place or have never actually experienced a good restaurant. If you're used to Denny's, this place is for you, but if you've been to five-star places, you will be highly disappointed! The best thing about the restaurant is the live toucan in a cage outside!    [23 Dec 2007 02:44:43]
