Description
Opened by Boston native Ken Mischitelli and California native Dawnelle Mischitelli, Chateau offers many of the family recipes previously offered at their Boston-area restaurant. The Mischitellis want to create a casual, customer-friendly restaurant offering Italian-American cuisine with early-bird specials, good service, and good food.

Italian-American Food in a Comfortable Setting Chateau is not your typical Italian restaurant with a huge menu filled with various pastas, veal, and antipastos. Chateau offers Italian-American food, food as served in the Italian neighborhoods of Boston. This is Italian with an American twist.
Chateau is a very casual, comfortable place with the emphasis on good food at reasonable prices and excellent service. It opens early for dinner and tries to serve the needs of their guests.
If you are expecting regional Italian fine dining, then this is not the place. But if you want hearty, flavorful food served in a comfortable setting, then you need to give it a try.
The pastas are somewhat limited, but the marinara and meat sauce are really quite good--rich and tomatoey. These are really some of the better sauces around. The salads are at the table within minutes, and the Italian dressing, which has been in the family for generations, is really a treat. Nothing is overdone on it. It is subtle yet perfectly matched with the greens. The tiramasu is also quite good, light and creamy.
Being an Italian-American restaurant, it offers foods such as filet mignons not normally found in most west coast Italian restaurants. One of those dishes is Ken's award-winning New England clam chowder. This chowder is the absolute best I have ever tasted, and I have tried clam chowder from Bar Harbor, Maine to Tokyo. This is a superb dish, worth visiting the restaurant just to taste it alone.
Ken and Dawnelle have brought a little bit of Boston-style Italian cooking to Poway. It should be a hit with both ex-pat Bostonians as well as people who just like good cooking. [23 Jun 2002 23:44:49]
