Great Chicken and Ribs
Gary's has been around for a long time, and when Gary sold the restaurant a couple years ago, I wondered how well the transfer would go. I shouldn't have worried.

The cornerstone to Gary's is a large rotisserie grill at the front of the restaurant. Roasting in it are always a large number of chickens. This chicken is great. Marinated the day before, the roasting creates a fine golden skin which somehow both crackles and melts in your mouth at the same time. This is great chicken, maybe the best in North County. (I like to buy the whole chickens in the morning from the day before to eat cold at a picnic.)

The ribs are also quite good. Too many places serve either dry ribs or ribs hidden in a blanket of gooey sauce. Gary's ribs are right down the middle. The sauce is great, but the flavor of the pork is also readily discernible.

One of the favorite dishes there is the chicken teriyaki bowl, but I most often opt for the dark meat chicken sandwich. For the health conscious, this sandwich is low in fat and cholesterol, but quite tasty.

All dishes come with your choice of sides (my favorite is the macaroni salad) as well as your choice of great rolls or tortillas.    [14 Mar 2000 17:09:57]
