No pizza place like it Johns has definitely changed for the better over the years. I remember back in the late '70s when it was still owned by "John", it resembled a Shakey’s Pizza place complete with wood grained walls. In the '80s a complete makeover changed it to a very nice mid-scale Italian restaurant. Gone were the checkerboard table cloths and the jean clad waitstaff. One thing has not changed though is the quality of the pizza and other entrees. They have your staple choices like Hawaiian, pepperoni, and cheese. But you have to try the house specials. Most are named after local landmarks like the high school and the nearby naval base. And some weird pizza creations like Monkeyshines, a peanut butter and banana concoction popular with pre-teens. If you want their best pizza though, try the John's House Special. It's basically a supreme with most of the standard toppings but the taste is very unique and no other pizza in the world is like it.
During the remodeling, the company also introduced homemade ice cream. Not bad stuff, but it's a bit expensive for the quality.
And what pizza parlor would be complete nowadays without the kids game room. Your average indoor carnival games, with some video games too. You can win coupons toward prizes like a nerf football and the like.
While you can't grow up in Ridgecrest without visiting John's a couple of hundred times, (it's been a local favorite for 30 years) visitors to the IWV might miss out on the nostalgia. Even so, it’s a great place to take your family and get good quality pizza and spaghetti. [11 Aug 2003 23:28:06]

Mediocrity at best... I don't get it. Takeout pizza gets a layer of clear plastic, sticking to the toppings, and knowing that the chemicals in the plastic are melting into my pizza makes me regret ordering it.
The pizza itself is mediocre but at a higher price than it's worth.
Dining in you can order from the menu or get the buffet. We ordered from the menu and once again, it was mediocre at best.
I heard so much about how good the food there was and quite honestly, I don't feel its pizza or pasta entrees are any better than a Shakey's pizza or Nickoletti's also in Ridgecrest. Nothing special to report. [22 Dec 2003 21:30:51]

Good Food and Cheap (Like Me)!!! I was on a bussiness trip for my company and the local technicians suggested John's Pizza. I was very impressed with the food, service and overall atmosphere. I was there for lunch and had the buffet. Great pizza, pasta dishes and chocolate cookies to die for. The price was around seven bucks. I was in a hurry so I was able to get in and out very fast... Average Sorry folks, it's nothing more than a small town pizza place. We get confused here in Ridgecrest. John's may be a top-5 pizza place FOR RIDGECREST, but they'd be out of business in a real town.
It's all relative. Believe it or not, Domino's may be the tastiest pizza in town. Hey, it is a small town, you know?
But, the Henry Weinharts root beer is very good, if you go there. [25 Apr 2006 14:35:43]

great food I just recently moved to Ridgecrest, and have eaten at John's several times. The food is very good. Though the price is a little high, it's worth it for the food. The homemade ice cream isn't bad either, just not worth the price. [21 Aug 2006 18:59:17]

Having just moved here from the small town of San Diego, I would say that the pizza is pretty good. Not the best I have ever had, but certainly better than Domino's!
Yes, it is a little more expensive. This is not a $5 mass-produced Little Caesar's pizza, folks. For about the same price, I could get a Round Table Pizza. Unfortunately, there isn't one here.
I have not tried the ice cream, I had some in the freezer at home!
If you still desire a pizza made in a "real" town . . . might I suggest going to Taormina, Italy? [12 Sep 2007 20:25:18]
