Taste France in the High Desert Herve, the owner of this fine establishment, has created an epicurean masterpiece in the heart of the high desert. One feels whisked away to the cosmopolitan cuisine capital of France. Peaceful and picturesque, this is by far Ridgecrest's best location for elegant dining. You should dine here if you have not yet visited. [03 Mar 2004 20:09:29]

Food was poor and service was mediocre compared to similar French restaurants in the Los Angeles area. Being the only one does not make them good. We went once and have felt no desire to return. [11 Mar 2006 23:53:16]

A Jewel in the Desert - The Best ! Last year I was traveling to Death Valley and stopped in Ridgecrest for the night. Of all the places available to eat, I decided on something different.I drove around and found Mon Reve, which was in the center of town and with very little fanfare. Let me tell you it was the best thing I did the whole weekend. After taking my first bite of the Beef Stroganoff, I wondered why this place didn't have a line around the block. Ladies and gentlemen, I have eaten this dish around the world and this is the BEST!!! In Ridgecrest no less. Every little thing was incredible to taste. These people know how to cook French. If you don't like French, go anyway, it's that good. This would be my ONLY reason for driving to Ridgecrest again, the food is that good. It's a couple of dollars more than your local diner but the quality and taste is amazing as well as the service. Don't be a fool and pass up this most tresured food establishment while you're in the desert. You will not be sorry. It's truly a jewel in the desert, which most pass over. Don't. Absolutely amazing. Finding such a place in the middle of nowhere with a wonderful atmosphere, great food and a beautiful ambiance. WHAT A TREAT.
Totally different than what we were able to find on our trip from Arizona.
Don't miss that restaurant if you are in this area. Delightful! [04 Jun 2006 11:22:34]

Real French Food Hervé, the Mon Reve cook and owner, grew up were I grew up, in Normandie, France, near Caen. His cooking is excellent and I will go back to Mon Reve every chance I get. Don't miss it!!! [07 Feb 2008 01:53:08]

The Coq au Vin tasted like chicken boiled in Bartles & Jaymes.
The waiter (owner?) was very rude.
If the food is great and the service is poor, that's somewhat acceptable; but with poor service and bad food, there's really no reason to go back. [14 Apr 2008 19:43:35]

Heaven in a Small Town I'm a businessman who travels the world and who dines out most of the time. I recently tried the coq au vin, which was for me one of the best I ever had all other the world. It was absolutely amazing, as were the music and the service. I highly recommend that jewel. A delight. [10 May 2008 03:58:11]

Absolutely Phenomenal Experience! The service is excellent and the food is marvelous! The setting and ambiance are warm and romantic, perfect for special occasions. This is one of the only two restaurants in Ridgecrest that make you feel like you're somewhere else . . . somewhere better . . . finer . . . classier. After living in Ridgecrest for six months, I feel lucky to have found such a gem. I am only sad it took me this long. We were making regular trips to L.A. in order to have nice dinners with quality food (and not fast food) . . . no more! We will definitely be going back again . . . and again . . . and again . . .
Thanks for a WONDERFUL experience, Herve! [26 Mar 2009 19:15:56]
